Reuters is reporting that singer Billy Corgan said on Tuesday (June 21) he plans to revive the SMASHING PUMPKINS, his Grammy-winning band which broke up in 2000 after more than a decade of blending alternative rock with the avant-garde.

In full-page advertisements in Chicago newspapers, the bald-headed Corgan said, "I want my band back, and my songs, and my dreams."

He did not say which if any of the band's former members would be involved in the revived group, which broke through with albums such as "Gish" and "Siamese Dream".

The PUMPKINS' top selling album was "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" which came out in 1995, but as the 1990s progressed their work became increasingly obscure as tensions arose in the group.

sorry moonlapse and other mods...especially in light of the recent crackdown. i had to share this news though. im sure everyone would have read it already, but this really excites me. i fucking love this band. i hope they tour.

Excellent news. Mostly because of the possibility of another tour. I never saw The Smashing Pumpkins and have many a time wished that I could have the opportunity (and I'm certain that there are many other who would like to as well). Hopefully it will happen now.

That whole bald-header thing makes me think the article is satirical?

They had a couple of really great songs, mostly off of Melancholy...

But yes, Billy Corgan sounds like Cartman.

Yeah SP brings back childhood memories, grew up with them too. if they go back to there old style it should be great, i still listen to there albums sometimes. One of those classic bands, for me at least.

I concur.

They had some nice songs, but I don't realy care much for SP. And I realy hate Corgans nasal vocal style. Everybody does an imitation of it, and everybody nails it pretty well.

YES YES YES!!!

Mellon Collie is one of the best albums I ever had :)

I hope they will tour. I hope Dárcy and Jimmy Chamberlain will be there. New material could very well suck, but if they play the old stuff on a tour i'll be happy!

btw check my pumpinks wallpaper in page 2 of the desktop thread :)
