when i come around came on the radio the other day when i was driving. what a good tune!
one thing that caught my attention (havent heard this in a while) is that the drums sound bitchin!!! especially the toms and the snare. definitely has a very roomy, ambient sound, but with a nice click provided by a close mic.

does anyone have any details on the tracking of this album, or maybe a link to an article or somthin? would really appreciate it.

I imagine that standard techniques where used, but i always like to hear the engineer elaborate on the tracking methods!

seriously, this is probably one of the best sounding albums ever imo

Yeah Green Day, believe it or not, usually has a pretty good mix of everything. I love the way everything sounds on American Idiot, drums are punchy as all hell, guitars have a good tone and sit perfectly, bass cuts through like nobody's business but is still fat at the same time and the vocals are right where they need to be. For info I know there is an article out there with the engineer/producer for Green Day talking about the equipment and a little bit about the production side of things in some US guitar magazine if I remember correctly. It was a while back though, close to the time when AI came out.

agreed 100%
american idiot has excellent production, srsly.
same guy produced My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade too, which also sounds awesome

Not ashamed to admit I was a big Green Day fan! "Dookie" was one of my first CDs when I was a young lad. I bet I would still love it if I put it on today, hehe.

i remember reading somewhere back in the day that a modded marshall 1976 super lead was used for the guitar on "dookie". definitely my fav rock tone of the 90`s, or maybe even 00`s for that matter...

I believe it was a Bradshaw (Custom Audio Electronics) modded Marshall head. Don't quote me on that, but I'm pretty sure.

I still like them, no shame there.
Hell, I even like American Idiot! Haha

Yep, Green Day has some great production quality, everything always cuts nicely. The guitar he used on American Idiot was a Gibson Les Paul Jr., that's about the extent of my knowledge on it though. I know in the article I mentioned the engineer/producer talks about how they always strive for the bass to be fat but cut through perfectly, etc.

American Idiot is a CLA-Mix afaik.

I always heard that jerry finn mixed dookie in a couple of hours, and no one could beat his initial roughs. probably little going on in the way of mixing tricks just good tracking.:notworthy
