anyone going to see this movie?
the suit looks really freaking stupid
but aside from that, the movie looks pretty decent

pretty sick of these pg-13 squeaky-clean superheros

i wish theyd make more dark/violent/morally ambiguous/flawed hero/interesting type comic book movies like watchmen, sin city, etc.

i'll still probably see all these new comic movies through roomies' netflix, but im not too worried about it if i dont

Ryan Reynolds.

No thanks.

He's another actor similar to Heath Ledger in a way--someone who repeatedly picks crappy movies again and again most of the time, yet is actually a fairly decent actor (he's above B grade), who can be extremely charismatic when he wants to be.

He was the only thing that prevented Blade Trilogy from being completely unwatchable, and he was fairly good in Buried. If you haven't seen that, I suggest you watch it. It may actually change your mind about him, and you'll realize he usually does just pick shitty scripts with shitty directors. Or, you may really just not be able to stand the guy regardless. :heh:

I also can't really think of anyone else who could have possibly played this part better--from any well known actors at least.

Going to see this next week with some friends, although not sure yet which format. I want to see it in 3D (most movies don't really gain much from that, but this is said to from those who have seen a screening), but one of them complains about getting a headache watching it with the glasses.

The thing with Heath Ledger is that he liked to challenge himself as an actor by picking interesting roles and interesting scripts and wanted to distance himself as far as he could from the "teen heartthrob" label he got when he did 10 Things I hate About you. Too bad some of those movies didn't come out to be anything spectacular but his characters were different.

For the longest time I thought the only role Ryan Reynolds could be was Van Wilder. I couldn't imagine him being any other guy...it was the same thing with Jake Gyllenhaal in Donnie Darko...I couldn't imagine him being anything other than Donnie Darko.

I hope the movie is a good, but it seems it'll be the same as all these super CGI sci fi/fantasy/superhero movies. They're all quite similar. We need more film noir based shit like Batman (well will be getting The Dark Knight Rises in 1 year), Sin City et.c

It may end up just being another throwaway special effects driven piece of trash--but the previews are certainly making it look like the most impressive throwaway visually. Even if the story and acting end up being awful, I'm sure people can find at least something to enjoy about it at least once. Unless of course you can only watch art house indie films or some such nonsense.

This, is why I honestly do not believe this movie will be a colossal failure. This is the guy who reinvigorated the Bond franchise twice, and also directed the very entertaining The Mask of Zorro.

This, along with Cowboys and Aliens are pretty much the only summer movies I have any interest in so far. The rest I can wait for.

WHOOooOoOOoah, now I'm fine with Ryan Reynolds, I think he's an alright dude and a decent actor, but comparing him to Heath Ledger is simple ATROCIOUS... (and NO, not just because of The Dark Knight)

And RYAN REYNOLDS was the only thing that made the Blade trilogy now unwatchable...?! That's a thought I never thought I would hear anyone utter. That's hilarious... His role in the 3rd actually made me hate that one, it was so useless.

Don't mistake what I said as saying that they are both the same. I already knew well before The Dark Knight that Heath Ledger was a very underrated actor, and knew ahead of time that his Joker portrayal would be a highlight. Up until that point though, he was given quite a bit of flak as just another pretty boy actor--which I knew wasn't true, most of the movies he had been in were just not very good aside from a select few and he rarely ever took parts that allowed him to shine.

That movie was awful on pretty much every level. Ryan Reynold's sarcasm is the only thing that was redeeming about it. The movie was already just that bad, may as well have someone winking at you through the fourth wall...which is what he was essentially doing.

He certainly hadn't been labeled anything like that since at least 2005, when he made Brokeback Mountain. And he had been in a lot of movies before that even that broke through that image, though mostly supporting roles. But I do think Ryan deserves more than he gets, but yes, they certainly aren't, nor ever will be, even close to equals.
