HOw do I learn doing these type of vocals is there a certain type of technique or anywhere ting that teaches or is it a style evryone figures himself.Recommendations? Sorry for the not perfect English.

From what I've figured, growling vocals come to different people differently. Some people are more able to do the high pitched Alexi Laiho style, and others can do the deep as hell growls that are like taking a whammy bar on a 7 string guitar and putting it all the way down.
Although I don't personally actually do much of it, when I growl, it's more of a Jon Schaffer backing sound, like on Burnt Offerings. Everybody's different though. You just have to find your sound.

I figured out in the shower that you have to sort of flex your stomach muscles and get your voice from the diaphragm like that.

<_<

Like Yngvai said, really try to do it from your gut, and not your throat. Paul Masvidal (Cynic) destroyed his voice from using the throat, that's why Focus has all those wierd vocals. And I'm not sure, but Chuck S's singing style may have had something to do with his cancer...didn't he have throat cancer.
RIP Chuck btw.

I used to be in a death metal band and when we first started I was always using my throat. For one, I couldn't even talk after a practice or show, and 2, once I started using my gut, not only did I feel a hell of a lot better, but the vocals were much more brutal.

Singing from the gut really goes for any style BTW, except maybe falsetto.

Chuck died from brain cancer.... I don't even think throat cancer exists. As for the gut thing, Chocolate milk + gut usage = great results. (Upon further investigation, chocolate milk seems to act as lubrication for the throat, eliminating the throat dryness of Chuck style screams)

Oh and if anyone cares, Chuck also seems to close his nose to a certain extent while he sings. It's hard to explain, but those who know what I mean will understand.

I like chocolate milk.

There are different approaches for different sounds. Personnally I like Mikael Akerfeldt style growls, but a bit more juicy :p. These are the different ones I can think of........

1) Growling by straining and tightening your throat. This is like a Dimmu sorta growl and is made in the top of your throat from tightening your diaphragm and applying resistance in your throat. It doesnt hurt and is easy to do so I guess its a good place to start.

2) Growling by applying resistance to the back of your throat. This is more of an Opeth growl and it hurts until you get used to it. Again, just tighten your diaphragm and apply resistance to your throat, but in the back this time.

Try and play around with 'where' you apply the resistance to your throat then you'll understand what works and what doesnt in your case. Also, the key is to practice so that eventually it doesnt really hurt that much.

do you guys have any tips on using the gut? I have a hard time pinpointing the usage of my gut. How do you focus on it mentally and get your voice to use it rather than the chest and throat?

I can't really give a good explination because a lot of its physical and hard to describe, but ask any vocal teacher or coach or whatever how to do it, they'll show you some breathing exercises.

dammit I messed up my vocals before, but yeah the gut thing works, also, I can do the Opeth style death metal growl by making an O with my mouth and almost constricting my esophogus! hehe, it sounds awesome, if only i had a sound clip...

I know how to do breathing exercises by breathing with the diaphragm, but I can't seem to nail my singing and growling from it. I try to growl sometimes and I start to hiccup LOL Other times I try to growl and even sing, and my throat hurts.
