Guitar amps : good for live vs good for recording

Ok but :

-in most cases (= not in very small venues) the crowd mostly hear the miked sound of your amp, not the "room sound".

-I doubt that an amp that sounds killer under a mic will sound like crap in the room.

well its the big difference in small venues/hall shows/etc.
but in shows where you're all micd up i think its more the other stuff i mentioned before

I think all of you are forgetting the fact that in a recording situation the environment is controlled. Meanwhile a live situation is not controlled. You have people moving around constantly, horrible acoustics usually and so many other things that are either unavoidable or basically uncontrollable. So just because an amp is no good for use in a live situation does not mean it would suck in a recording situation. This is apples to oranges here.
