Guitar Compresion

How much do you compress guitars while mixing and what plugin is better to do this?

Usually distorted guitars are better left uncompressed; the amp has already compressed the signal.
While clean guitars may need some compression, to even out the peaks.

I find DIed distorted guitars need compression just as much as some clean stuff. I couldn't say anything about mic'ed cabs, as I don't record that way.

yeah , no comp on heavy guitars excpet maybe for low mids..... maybe.
i spank clean guitars though

I put a Waves L1 on the guitar group that flatten the bastards at least 3-10 dbs depending on the character of the played parts.

I like a little compression on the group, this helps pull things together, mainly when the parts weren't played as tightly as they should have been.
