I'm surprised no one else posted this one yet. I guess I'll have to once again be the bearer of bad news...

Jerry Reed dies at age 71

the reason this one strikes a chord with me is because I grew up listening to Jerry Reed - and Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Willie & Waylon, and many others - in my early years. I believe these country artists are the ones who helped develop my taste for storytelling through the use of song. He was among the artists who were my 'gateway drug' into Rock & Roll and eventually Heavy Metal music. Without them, I would probably still be listening to Top 40. :ill: *shudder*

Jerry Reed will be missed greatly. His contributions to the music industry were many. And I always loved seeing him in the movies, be it as a funny sidekick or a dirty rotten scoundrel.

Six foot six stood on the ground, weighed 235 pounds
But I saw that giant of a man brought down to his knees by love
He was the kind of man who would gamble on love
Look you in the eye and never back up
But I saw him crying like a little whipped pup because of love

Can't see it with your eyes, hold it in your hands
Like the rules that govern our land
Strong enough to rule the heart of every man, this thing called love

It can lift you up, it can put you down
Take your world and turn it all around
Ever since time nothing's ever been found stronger than love
Men like me they worry and doubt
Trouble their minds day in and day out
Too busy a livin' to worry about a thing called love

And then I see a mother's tenderness
As she holds her young close to her breast
Then I say thank God this world will win with the thing called love

RIP Jerry. I was just watching Smokey and the Bandit the other day, love to hear Jerry Reed laugh. I grew up listening to his music as well, my mom was a big country fan.

Yep, Just heard myself the other day about Jerry Reed. I grew up seeing the first two Smokey movies in a Triple feature w/ another classic w/ Burt Reynolds & Jerry Reed called "W.W. & The Dixie Dance kings" ( & btw, if anyone besides me remembers this gem I'll be totally shocked!!!) @ The long gone late great NE Expressway drive in! I also had the Smokey Soundtrack on vinyl back in the day too! My dad also had the 8 track of When You're Hot, You're Hot" W/ "Amos Moses!" A true southern classic! A Great musician, comic actor & above all, a great Southerner!!!! You'll be sorely missed Mr. Reed. We all know you're Northbound now. R.I.P.
