Got about $200-250 for xmas to spend on equipment. Don't have enough for a decent amp or guitar right now, so I figure pedals are the way to go. I'll probably just buy one. I know this is a very personal subject, but what do you guys recommend to a relatively new player with beginner gear, who's pretty serious about getting good at this stuff?

i've also come to realize that you get what you pay for when it comes to music equipment, and pedals are no exception. i just blew $200 on a fuzz pedal because my $90 distortion pedal just isn't cutting it.

do you have a decent distortion pedal? that's a good start.

HMm. I have a Boss HM-2 that I bought 'cause they used it to get that guitar tone on all the old Sunlight Studios death metal from the early 90s, and on Bloodbath's first album.

I dont use it though, my amp's overdrive/gain do me just fine.

try a chorus then.

actually, use this method. if you can't think of an effect you absolutely need, don't get one. yes that is the No Fun Answer but it's money better spent elsewhere. or just get a god damn wah pedal. everyone needs a wah. i want a seek wah, but i don't need one.

Well for the time I'm not concerned with something like a GT-6, just something to practice and fuck around with, not record. And for anyone interested, my setup is as follows:

Randall Jaguar RG25-R (old, not very good practice amp that i couldn't find fuck all about on the 'net)
& and shitty chinese strat-clone called a Barracuda with no more model info on it that i can see

cost me $200 for both of em together, amp was used, guitar wasn't.

yeah, what's your current setup? you need a full tube head. just like everyone else.

edit: well that answers that!

All I have is a rp 200 digitech pedal. Meh.

I'm considering whittling and forging all the equipment I need myself.

Does this guitar neck look like its coming out o.k?

whatever i'm playing, i dont think i'd ever rely too much on pedals, but you're right, a wah would be nice. what's a chorus? :loco: some goddamn fucking fuzz would be AWESOME too.

gives new meaning to those "NEED HEAD!" t-shirts.
practice amp will do me fine for now, but next time i'm gonna go full on tube head for sure, but there'll be a thread on the creation of my stack when i can afford it. around april of this year, if things go well.

best guitar amp i've ever played, and i hate Crate. 5W, all tube, amazing little fucker. i think you can find them used on eGay. Crate VC508

hehe I was gonna say Orange > Crate, but all-tube practice amp > solid state. How much do those little things run?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Take that offer before he takes his word back. Can't go wrong with that.
