The winners from these threads will face each other head on in the final thread / showdown of semi-epic proportions.

I'll give every round a couple of days to gather enough votes before moving on to the next round. I intend to keep the voting time 5 days, but I'll extend it if needed and shorten if possible. I don't want to rush a round with insufficient votes or drag on too long when there's already a clear winner.

When voting, please keep in mind this is about the guitar tone. Some have louder guitars than others. No extreme differences though, the most extreme ones have been edited by Anssi. Some files were submitted with master bus changes. We used the submitted guitar only files and put those in the standard backing track in these cases to remove the master bus changes.

Without further delay, here are the7 contestants for round eight.

wavs are uploading and will be up in about 30 min.

I think WW is probably a better tone than V, but it's too scooped and too far in the back. The way it sits with the mix is a lot more natural however, as V has too much cloudiness in 500hz land.

They all sounded crap in this round but V was OK, WW was probably better but the engineerer fucked up and scooped all the life out of them :heh:

Mostly pretty good tones in this round, esxcept 2 i dismissed at first listen (TT & VV)

- W wins for me. Nothing to complain about apart that I'd put a little more brightness/presence/treble. Clear, detailed, tight, balanced, tone i like.
- closely followed by V (good balance, bright enough, quite tight, but a bit too digital-sounding/distorted) and U (good tight tone but a tad too low-mids beefy)
- then UU (too digital-sounding/spongy/untight for me) and WW (same)
- then the ones i dismissed at first listen : TT (weird, unpleasant, messy) and VV (meh, way too trebley, quite unpleasant, and wtf phaser at the end ?)

Congrats to V and WW! Letting both of you through to the finals considering the massive gap between you and the rest, and the small gap between the two of you.

TT was spamds

Curses, missed this one too - again FWIW, I would have voted for WW, V was just a bit too wooly IMO :D

I gotta say though, I listened to them before I looked at who did which, and James, I really dug yours dude; it wasn't perfect (a little grainy and a bit unclear, especially in the left channel IMO), but it overall had a really cool, raw character that I dug :headbang: Actually, I can totally tell that you used 6505 left, Dual Rec right, am I right? :D
