Guitar tracking question?

Having a pretty known band in my area come in to do a song soon and just want to tie up loose ends.

Everytime I record guitar it always seems to have this really grainy scratchy characteristic to them which is especially noticeable during breakdowns. I di my guitar into a radial j-48 and that goes into my saffire pro and then podfarm or whatever other sim fits the production

I've tried multiple guitars and they all seem to have this character about them, is this a result of poor playing or perhaps a wire problem or something of that nature? I know it has to be specific to my recording chain because I've never had this problem when mixing stems from this forum. Has anyone else experienced this?

Kinda hard to make suggestions without a sample of some sort.
It could be the type of pick and picking technique.

I didn't record this, just mixed its a friends band which is why I did it they're pretty inexperienced at recording but regardless my recorded guitars always come out quite similar

Are you recording real amps and cabs, or are you going direct with like a POD or something? Do you use a noise-gate or TS? How are you mic'ing the cab? (the mic placement will depend on how much fizz you pick up on the recording) What type of amps do you have access to? (some are fizzier/grainier than others) Could also be the playing style (holding the pick at a slight angle to get a scraping motion sound), pickups, interference from your interface or other electronics, etc. More details would be helpful in knowing what kind of suggestions to make.

PODfarm is your problem. It's notorious for that line6 fizz. Want more beef in your guitars and less fizz? Record a real amp. If you don't have access to one, I would suggest using one of LePou or Onqel's amp sims instead. Podfarm is shit.

But it sounds like that's just one element fueling your problem. If you have fizz on your DI track, running it through podfarm or whatever will only amplify the bad qualities of the DI; which is probably why your DI's sound like garbage compared to the DI's from on the forum you mentioned. I had this problem with one of my guitars not too long ago and realized it was poor wiring in my guitar which was causing an annoying hum and interference / static if I sat close-to, or even was near a wall with electronics or electrical wiring or power running through it.

Since you've tried several guitars, are they all the same brand or same pickups? If they are all different, then I doubt guitar wiring is the issue. Are you using cheap instrument cables? How are you connecting your interface to your computer? (firewire or usb?) You could always hire a studio electrician for an hour to come figure out what your issue is. haha

Thanks for the really detailed response I know pod farm is known for that harsh 4k fizz but I know it must be something on my end because with other peoples di's I've never had that issue. I'm using two planet waves cables to connect to the interface I suppose it could be the picking technique ? ):
