Alice Cooper guitarist Ryan Roxie is featured in a new interview with Metal Matt discussing the inner workings of the shock rock legend’s band. Check out the interview below.
On keeping true to the original Alice Cooper sound that we hear on the records
Ryan: “It is important to revisit the original recordings, as that’s what most people hear, and then when they come to see it live, you put a little bit of your own flavour, a little bit of your own stamp on it, but do your best; those key elements of a song, to nail them closely as you can to the originals. I try to play the opening of ‘School’s Out’ just like the way Michael Bruce or Glen would have.”
On the importance of guitarist Kane Roberts’ legacy to Alice Cooper
Ryan: “I know that Alice and Kane have such a long history, that they were kinda like two brothers. I look at Alice kinda like an older brother, but they were kinda like the same ‘brother, brother.’ They went through that ’80s success, they shared it together.”
On how he views his experience with Alice Cooper
Ryan: “I look at Alice as a mentor and a guy that’s taught me so much about music, so much about the music business, and even more how much to enjoy life when you’re in the music business. I think he does as good a job as anyone can in enjoying life and making the best decisions being in this rock n’ roll business which can be quite tumultuous at times.”
“We (the band) have a very family orientated vibe. It’s great when my wife comes out on the road; she can hang on the bus for a week or two. My son’s been on the road a couple times with me now, everyone’s very welcoming. Alice’s wife Sheryl is in the show, Calico (Alice’s daughter) is also in the show. She comes out multiple times and comes out to save the day sometimes. So yeah, Alice, he’s a true guy. He’s authentic and people can see that, and it kinda drives us to be the same way.”
“I think what we do best is entertain on stage, and that’s basically our job and that’s why Alice hires us. And that’s why we are, again, lucky enough to continue to go out,. and I look forward to seeing you guys when we come out there this year.”
