Axl wanted this direction. He fails.

my thoughts on what has happened to rock.

Rock as we knew it suffered a schism of some sort.

The emotion and overall talent seems to be transfered to the indie scene, but while the songs are well done, they put me to sleep. Not enough kick like the good ole classic rock I grew up on when my parents controlled the radio.

Then this new rock and pop rock tries to be upbeat and lively but they all fail at many aspects such as overall melody, good lyrics, and just something less plastic.

Heck I love Buckcherry's 1st album. Probably the closest thing to good rock coming from a new band.....that dream died quick.

What happened to rock'n'roll?

Well, I guess it's a matter of $$$... I'm no sure - maybe because I'm too young to know more about the 70's and 80's - but to me it seems that the rock-and-metal scene in the past was more 'overseeable'... meaning, there were fewer bands with a real attitude and some kick-ass-songs. But with growing success of these bands many other bands jumped on this bandwagon. The whole scene became bigger and bigger, everyone started copying someone else and it became almost impossible to stay up to date and not missing an amazing band.

Some years ago I somehow 'lost' my interest in metal as every new band I checked out sounded like several other bands I already knew. Nothing new, nothing innovative I thought. But now I know it's just a matter how much time you spend searching for some good stuff. I think nowadays it's really hard to find some real good stuff out there. But it's worth searching for it I guess!

I only got to know most of my favorite bands eventually: I read a great review of 'Days of Purgatory' (in a german metal magazine) and Iced Earth became my favorite band... I found out about Morgana Lefay due to a CD enclosed to that magazine... I got to know Pyramaze because of Matt's return and I checked out Tad Morose as some of you guys here recommended 'Modus Vivendi'. Thanks dudes. :)

So: good music still sourrounds us, it's just hard to find.

definatly cris... power metal still has some good stuff... the real victim is death metal... it has been replaced by this shitty hardcore/metalcore emo piece of shit...
