Guns N’ Roses has no shortage of legendary songs, reports Forbes Senior Contributor, Hugh McIntyre, but even among a catalog packed with rock classics, “Sweet Child O’ Mine” continues to stand out. From the moment it was released in the late 1980s, it was a defining anthem – not just for the band, but for rock music as a genre.

Now, nearly four decades following its global takeover, the track is proving its staying power yet again, as it reappears on multiple Billboard charts, including both of the brand’s global rankings.

This week, “Sweet Child O’ Mine” makes a triumphant return to two major Billboard lists: the “Billboard Global 200” and the “Billboard Global Excl. U.S.” chart. The rock staple reenters the former at #198, marking its one-hundred-and-fifty-seventh turn on the ranking, where it once peaked at #57.

The song placed #37 on Guitar World’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitar Solos.” It also came in at #3 on Blender’s “500 Greatest Songs Since You Were Born” list, and at #198 on Rolling Stone’s “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time” in 2015, and 88th in the 2021 list.
