Totally a guitarist's guitarist, but probably the best one there is.

There's COUNTLESS videos of him all around youtube, (check and for notey shred), but the one I'm digging on is his interpretation of the greats. He does all of these, and NAILS most of them. The guy can do anything.

Best chord voicings - Eric Johnson
Best use of capo - James Taylor
Best strumming - Pete Townsend
Best use of E-Bow or sustaining device - The Edge
Best vibrato - BB King
Best string bending - David Gilmour
Best finger picking - Mark Knopfler
Best hybrid picking - Albert Lee
Best tapping - Eddie Van Halen
Best palm muting - Al Di Meola
Best sweep picking - Yngwie
Best speed, Best alternate picking, Best string skipping - Pablo Giblerto
Best pinched harmonics - Zakk Wylde
Best use of an effect - Tom Morello
Best legato - Satch
Best fretting hand reach, Best use of harmonics - Steve Vai
Best use of slide - Sonny Landreth
Best feel - Jeff Beck
Best timing - John Schofield
Most creative/experimental player, Best use of whammy bar, Overall winner - Jimi.

I'm surprised John Petrucci didn't make the list. maybe add the category Best technical ability. he'd probably fit there.

What does 'technical ability' mean?

Did you watch those videos (particularly the last one)? Guthrie kills John in every technique possible.

Excepting songwriting, but only if you exclude the last four DT albums and his solo record. Guthrie's solo record is a feast.

Dude!! If I were to compile a list of guitarists it would look EXACTLY like that one (expect for Jimi Hendrix...) However, you are forgetting a big name... TOMMY EMMANUEL! Amazing acoustic guitarist.

I honestly believe Guthrie is one of the most incredible guitarists of recent times. Versatile and well-rounded with perfect technique.

Guthrie nailed ALL of them, sans Jimi. But no one can do Jimi.

His Jeff Beck was so on it made me laugh.

There is such a man who does JIMI His name is Randy Hansen (Please do an investigation) Buddy Miles thought so, as well as Mitch Mitchell and noel redding who have both toured with him.As well as uli roth, Jack bruce Simon Phillips. To name a few, Myself included-I stood behind him playing bass for 12 years. Joe Walsh gave him a pretty baby blue stratocaster after a jam just because..i guess this might be my version of name dropping? But check out randy, He is a well known but not internationally famous gifted treasure of a guitar player who you should check out. After a sold out show at seattles Paramount Theater back in the day i remember a not so sober Al Hendrix walking up to him backstage and calling him Jimi (Al was a sweetheart) Nuf Said Later....

yeah Guthrie is amazing, i've also been a fan of Kiko Loureiro's style as well, he has a similar style for his shreddy stuff.

love both their techniques out of all the others.
