Hans and René Rutten, members of legendary Dutch band The Gathering, finally reveal the sound of their new band Habitants with the premiere of Meraki. A dark and beautiful ride into a new mystical world.

We are Habitants. We feel that the world needs an escape.
The song Meraki is our first sign of life. As of today we release our first song and video. The song is available to stream right here: https://igg.me/at/habitants
Our plan is to release a debut album at the end of 2017, and we felt it was the right way to use Indiegogo, a crowdfunding launchpad, to help make our debut album possible and let fans/friends participate in the making of the album: https://igg.me/at/habitants
Habitants are the living proof that atmosphere, talent and honest music can still prevail in an ailing music industry. With a solid rock history, Hans and René Rutten, members of Dutch band the Gathering (on hiatus since 2013), decided to start a new band in 2015. Soon they found an extra guitar player and songwriter in Gema Pérez.
When the band started rehearsing in their hometown Nijmegen, they found their proper dark atmosphere and identity in a very natural way. It soon became clear to the three members that they needed clear vocals to contrast with the (dark) music. René and Hans knew Anne van den Hoogen (vocalist Rosemary & Garlic) from the time they had worked with her recording The Gathering’s 'The West Pole' album back in 2009. After recruiting Mirte Heutmekers on bass guitar, the band was complete and ready to go.
With a mix of atmospheric and dynamic melodies and soft and heavy electronic and organic beats, the music of Habitants can be best described as film music noir. A slow roller coaster ride from bright colourful lights to uncomfortable pit dark caves.
Habitants want to take you to another world. To find this new habitat, both guitar players (and spouses) René and Gema, searched and rehearsed a lot to find their unique guitar sound. René even built his own guitar effect pedals to find the right sound and feeling. All of us, Hans, René, Mirte, Gema and Anne, are ready to make this music happen because we strongly feel that we can create a mysterious magical musical world for everyone to escape to and wander around.
