Hammered Dulcimer

I can't think of anyone using a hammered dulcimer in a metal band offhand. Then again, I didn't know about Eluveitie and their hurdy-gurdy until recently, either. :)

Me, I consider myself slightly spoiled. I've been lucky enough to see Dead Can Dance twice, with Lisa Gerrard on the hammer-dulcimer (and other things), and you just can't get much better than that. AND, they have a hurdy-gurdy, too. :kickass:

Looking around... I have found a few obscure metal artists who have used this instrument including Autumnal Winds, Dormant, Gurtholfinn, and others...

Edit: Looks like Porcupine Tree used one on their 'Deadwing' disc.

The way most of 'em drink, you could put "hammered" in front of any instrument and have it in a metal band.

"Hammered Vocals" - Midnight

"Hammered Guitar" - Schenker

etc. :)

Dangit, ya beat me to it. That alternate usage occurred to me moments ago when I re-read the thread title. :)

"Dude, quit giving that dulcimer more beer! He's way past the legal limit! And besides, accordion and theremin are way too drunk to drive, too!"
