Handstanding Pandas

Some Pandas do handstands to mark their territory. The aim is to piss as high up a tree as possible. The higher the scent, the "more dominant" the signal. A new BBC Wildlife Magazine documentary captures this and other interesting bearhavior using camouflaged cameras and motion sensors. Link

it's a really ingenious idea! the panda is so lazy; he could have learned to shinny up the tree and then piss on it, but that would take too much work, so he figured out the handstand thing!

and the mental image of azal doing pissing cartwheels...it burns, mommy, make the bad man stop!

when i saw the pandas at the san diego zoo they seemed to have no problem shimmying up trees!

also, remind me to warn my friends against tourism in belgrade.

i wonder if it's a time constraint: quicker to handstand and piss than climb, so you can cover more trees and end up with more territory

Pandas are always so laid back but I guess in nature it's an all out paws of fury when it comes to the females!

It's the same way in my house. I'm the tallest right now so I get all the glory, but my brothers just came home and totally fucked up all my shit 'cause they've got three inches on me. It'll take some work to get my shit together again.
