alternative happy holidays wishes, TY i liked it a lot. you know i couldn't imagine a different way to wish merry christmas, happy new year and bla-bla-bla...but you and steven enlighted me

Is that Dancing with the Stars or something?

I'm not even going to get into the differences between Aikido and Jiu-Jitsu, but when it comes to really breaking someone's arm you can't even compare the two.

Also, I forgot Seagal did Aikido. I think that's totally awesome.

Did you guys know Ed O'Neil (Al Bundy) is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Royce Gracie? Crazy shit, he doesn't even look like he could move his body parts fast enough to reach that level.

Aikido isn't about fighting as much as jiu-jitsu. Aikido is about the use and control of energy and momentum. They're two different disciplines...it would be like comparing kung fu to tae kwon do. I'd say JJ is more for physically hurting people with grabs to the point where they can't do anything at all, whereas aikido is like a sport and only using the amount of energy to defend yourself and keep them at a distance.

Aikido is absolutely beautiful...it's really like a dance. It's also beautiful in the regard that you can use whatever techniques you've learned from other disciplines. It's like a template. Many people take aikido for the self-control, meditation, and focus it gives you in your everyday life. It's so fluid and beautiful.

Yep, Aikido is mainly defensive and jiu-jitsu mainly offensive. It looks like a lot of Aikido techniques could be extended to the point of offense, but from what I understand it's not really taught or encouraged. It's designed to simply defend yourself from attackers and render them helpless.

But don't let that confuse the meaning of JJ either... we're also taught to use momentum and strategy over sheer strength and to capitalize on opponents mistakes. There are also countless techniques (some of which evolved from Aikido and other martial arts) in place to defend yourself from attacks by your opponent. JJ is also a sport and a very high standard is placed on style, respect, sportsmanship, learning, and understanding.

Bottom line... if studied properly and with proper motivation, any martial art will help any human become a better, more confident person. I really regret not opening my mind to the joys and benefits of martial arts until I was 28 years old :(
