Hard Rock fans

I know there's quite a few of us here who love hard rock still. Occasionally there's a new band or 2 that come along in that genre that stands above the rest, which I admit, who suck. Buckcherry, the Darkness, Beautiful Creatures, New American Shame, Halfcocked, Wolfmother & Priestess come to mind right away. Some are popular, some will have you scratching your heads.

Yesterday, I purchased 2 cds blind based on the old school way (pre-internet) of purely "judging a book by it's cover". I can't stop listening to them.

The 1st one I had in my hand was the album by AIRBORNE "Runnin' Wild" from down under. This album is beer-drinkin' ass-grabbin' fist in the air fun. This album has what I call the AC/DC effect. The more you listen, the louder it gets and the more your head bangs. By the time I got home my car stereo was cranked. Raunchy and crunchy guitars, no-nonsense hard rock n roll. Fun, the way it's supposed to be. No Depeche Moods here. If you don't like your rock full of sex booze and tattoos, do not pick this up. The closes these guys get to a ballad is a track called "What's Eatin' You", I'll let you ponder the meaning of the tune. Standout track for me is "Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast".

Comparisons; vocals kinda like a Jesse James Dupree (Jackyl) a little scratchy, a little high pitched when he's excited. music reminds me of Child's Play meets Jackyl backstage at an AC/DC show.

The 2nd pick is Poets and Pornstars self titled album. When I popped this in, the first thing that came to mind was Little Caesar :kickass:. This is soulful sounding hard rock. So in the vein of Little Caesar on the first track, simply titled "Rock And Roll", it's hard for me to think of another comparison listening to that song. The album is diverse a bit more than Airborne as these guys (and gal) aren't afraid of stretching they're legs in the songwriting department (see the song "In The Dark" which is one of my favorites).

So if you're like me and still crave a good rock album between your aural assaults of power/prog/death/whatever metal, check these 2 bands out. You may find something you enjoy like I did.

Creeps, I came close to buying that Airborne disc myself yesterday, but I talked myself out of it. I have heard a few tracks from it and your AC/DC assessment is dead on. I've heard of Poets and Pornstars, but I haven't heard any of their music. I'll check these bands out, because I'm not afraid to admit that I'm still loyal to cock rock. ;)

Those days are over for me. It's simply not worth it. Every CD in my collection that I don't care for, was a blind purchase, based on either hype or a recommendation/review I read somewhere. Blind buying is like throwing your money down on a roulette table. The only difference is, you can only lose. Because even when you find a gem, you could have just as easily listened to that CD first and ensured it was a gem. That said, interesting recommendations. I'll see if I can't check them out. Thanks.

I got the Poets and Pornstars disc and it didn;t do much for me.

I didn't like Poets & Pornstars. On the other hand, I thought New American Shame and Beautiful Creatures had potential. Aside from the singer's obnoxious attitude towards my friend Ripper, Buckcherry doesn't bother me.

I love the Runnin' Wild CD by Airbourne. My friends and I plan to catch them on tour and go the the Greenville, SC show on March 25.

Holy Crap! How did I miss the upcoming Greenville show? That's only 30 minutes from here. We'll be there. These guys are a lot of fun to listen to.

Airbourne is also playing at the Masquerade in Atlanta sometime in March, the same night as Napalm Death actually (different rooms in the same club).
