The clips on amt's website do sound pretty cool, but I did not see any info listed there on how they were recorded. Was it direct in from the pedal with impulses or into a power amp/cab/mic.
I would like to hear a shoot out between a 5150 and the pedal into the fx loop of the same 5150.
I have thought about getting one of these before actually. They sound pretty decent, but I dunno... I have been asking around to see if any amp builders can make me a 5150 red channel tube preamp rackmount.
006 I was just thinking the other day about how a 5150 preamp with a built in noise gate and speaker simulator would be tits. Please make a thread if you find someone doing this.
The high gain clip is a great example of a nice psychoacoustic phenomenon. The signal is in fact identical (but time shifted) in both speakers, but it appears to be panned right due to the right hand signal being ahead of the left.
I had the Engl Fireball version of this series, the E1. I had debated on getting the P1 as well. for what they are, they are OK. IMO nothing to write home about. I ended up selling the E1, simply because I bought it solely to record demos for my band, and was hoping it would sound better than the free amp sims and/or my POD.
It didn't.
For someone looking for additional tones to run through their amps power section, these are pretty cool I guess. The built in cab sims IMO are not that great.
Here is a clip I made of my E1, using the preamp direct out into a Catharsis impulse:
