My bassist is training me at the gym and we listen to hatebreed a lot
he recently became an ordained minister and we thought the idea was funny so we did a cover of one of our favorite bands saturday night

guitar is 4 tracks podxtpro 100% 90% L/R
bass is 2 tracks one bp from 80hz down & one hp 500hz up
drums are ezdrummer
vocals sm58 through DOD juicebox into podxtpro

anyone have any tips for that snare?! it'll snap your neck until the final mix and then it suddenly takes a nap and loses all verb:zombie:

:) :) :)

"enjoy everything" :)

It sounds very close to the original song (especially the singing and the bass)

I definitely don't dig this typical "POD guitar sound" ... except maybe for the Meshuggah-ish stuff

thanks guys, I totally agree about that snare anyone have any useful tips or etc you'd be so kind as to share in my general direction about how to blend it in better?

the problem I find is getting more lows out of the snare to sound as beefy as the drop A tuning we're playing in (I'm sure this is probably a technical disaster to those of you who actually understand the mechanics of drop tuning guitars and all that stuff) I dunno about this stuff it just sounds heavy to me so I do this.

we're planning on doing some more covers (trying to find a better mix before recording our old band's album/cd/what-have-you)
sooo.... anyone have any suggestions on what to cover?
so far it looks like we're on a hatebreed kick for now

p.s. maple syrup
thank you.

Hee Hermie...

The snare seems to be the biggest culprit for you... in a way, i really like that snare.. that whole mix plus that snare reminded me of a song called "downbreeding" by stuck mojo... however, what they wanted to do with the snare is make it sound like a drummachine in that song, industrial like...

So it sounds well for stuff like that, however in this mix and what you are aiming for, ity could use more snap.. or perhaps fully replace/sample that snare.
It is really hard to tell you from here what to use and try, but i would just make a couple of mixes and export short clips of them.. then let them hear us, and most importantly, listen to them yourself and see what works and what does not.

GODDAMN does that bass sounds incredible! I agree about the industrial like sound of the snare, naturally, but that bass - was that a Sansamp?

+1000

Damn, How'd you do that again...specifically??? You recorded the bass twice (direct?) and then cut everything below 80 on one track and then cut everything above 500 on the other? Sounds fuckin amazing.

Are you from Indiana, play music with a dude named Trampas?

:kickass:

bob!!! I haven't heard much stuck mojo but I know you're into them and if you say my mix reminds you of them I will definitely take that as a compliment fo sho nugga!!! cheers on the clips idea, I dont know why I didn't think of that but I'll try it and see what everything thinks, thanks again man!!!

metaltastic and scottcash:rock:

for the bass I just had tramp plug straight into my podxtpro and recorded 1 track for bass.
amp- big bottom
gain - 9'clock
bass - 1'clock
mid - 12'clock
treb - 12'clock
pres - 4'clock (max'd)
chan vol - 2-2:30'clock
cab - 4x12 treadplate
mic - 57 on axis (I could have sworn I used 67 condenser)
room - 40%
comp - -30db / gain 5db
gate - -50db / decay 0
EQ - [70 +4] [250 -1] [900 +4] [3k +2]
stomp - bass overdrive - [drive70%][gain77%][bass70%][treb35%]
lux spring verb 9'clock

I doubled that track and did a LOW bandpass starting around 80hz on down and left that panned center. the 2nd track I did a highpass around 500hz and then some compression. [thresh-10 /20:1 / knee 50% / fast attack / release] adjust out-vol to taste & panned 5-10% left

nwright!!!
I sure am from Indiana and have been jammin with Tramp for about 4 years now. We're working on recording a bunch of old Crosseyed tracks.

I'll take into consideration the multiple millions of dollars that funded those major label studios where korn recorded anything and compare it to my multiple... dollars that funded the recording you hear in this clip and I'd say thanks for the compliment brother. Seriously, that pets my ego sweetly. Me likey.

I'd really like more people to hear this track so click on the link and hear it. perdy please.

sounds great man i love the vocals can you give more details on the vocals!
:kickass:
not a problem dude!!!
we both used a sm58 into a DOD Juice Box (fx51) for gain/warmth into my podxtpro direct into the computer with an Emu 0404 PCI.

The setings on the Juice Box were:
sweet: cranked
pulp: cranked
tang: cranked
juice: 9 o'clock

I don't have the pod settings right at the moment but the main reason I used it was to get stereo output from a single input because the Emu 0404 has dual mono 1/4" in/outs. I'm pretty sure that I only used the pod's preamp (1st "amp") and some compression (not sure if it was blue, red or vetta sorry man). It's got a pinch of pod's verb as well (maybe 25%/mix on pod)

Tramp did all the lead vocals single tracked and I did the backups double tracked and hard panned L/R. Slapped a hard limiter on them biatches for some guts in the mix. There is a SLIGHT (and I mean SLIGHT, it isn't even noticable to me anyway) chorus send fx on Tramp's vocal for a touch of warmth.
I'm glad you asked

the bass sound is AMAZING!
the guitars could be more agressive, I think the pod knows more!
but its kickin ass for now too! :kickass:

I totally agree 100%!!!
I've heard some insane noises posted up here from some other pod users so I know that I've barely begun to scrape the iceberg.
I was pretty lazy when tracking the guitars but we were just messin around at the time so I kinda hurried to get it done cause it was getting late and we still needed to record bass and vocals:lol: midnight finally came and it was time to shut'er down. I'm glad you dig it man!!!
