I'm probably making this show as it's a couple hours drive from Quebec city. That Gillett guy is really taking charge of the city with the Montreal Canadiens and all the shows he brings to the city.

Who else is thinking of making this one???

IRON MAIDEN Comment On Montréal's HEAVY MTL Festival
Posted on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 14:26:40 EST

IRON MAIDEN have issued the following update:

Gillett Entertainment Group is proud to announce the creation of HEAVY MTL, a unique event in North America, which will take place on Saturday June 21st and Sunday June 22nd at Parc Jean-Drapeau.

Loud, intense, heavy, HEAVY MTL will feature over 30 hard rock and metal bands performing on different stages located outdoors on the breathtaking site that is the Saint-Hélène Island.

To launch this premier new Metal event we are delighted to announce that we are bringing metal legends Iron Maiden and their "Somewhere Back in Time Tour World Tour" to Montreal for the opening day, Saturday June 21nd. 'Maiden Mania' has been gripping countries around the planet as tickets for the tour fly out of box offices everywhere. In Canada alone the major arena in Toronto sold out 3 months in advance and recently it took just a couple of days for Maiden to sell out all 60,000 tickets for their five shows in Western Canadian arenas! And HEAVY MTL now gives metal fans in Eastern Canada a chance to see this inspirational band and spectacular show outdoors in a wonderful setting.

The Somewhere Back in Time -- World Tour 08 was inspired by Maiden's recently released DVD, Live After Death (EMI Records) which debuted at No 2 in Canada's DVD chart. Filmed and recorded over four memorable nights at Long Beach Arena on the "Powerslave Tour" in 1985, this has long been a benchmark for rock concert videos and live albums, and the CD remains one of the biggest-selling live albums ever with sales in excess of six million worldwide.

This tour revisits the band's history by focusing almost entirely on their classic 80's period in both choice of songs played and the stage set, which is based around the legendary Egyptian Production of the 1985 'Powerslave Tour' as portrayed on the Live After Death DVD. This is arguably the most elaborate and spectacular show the band has ever presented.

Says founder member Steve Harris; "The Province of Quebec has always been close to our hearts and l think we have played there on every tour we have ever done, going right back to "Le Club Montreal" in 1981 and many many times since -- we always ensure its on our tour schedule! So you could say we feel very much at home there and we have always had a fantastic welcome from the fans, who are without question right up there with the best and loudest on the planet. This region was the first in North America to really get behind us and has always been incredibly loyal to us so it's an honour for us to be headlining the opening of this tremendous new metal festival for our fans there. For the launch of HEAVY MTL we will bring along the full show with all of Eddie's toys which we couldn't get on our plane during the recent first leg which included Toronto. It's very appropriate for us to play the final date of our Canada and USA tour in Quebec Province and we very much look forward to seeing all our fans there again, including those maniac Beavers!!!"

This BW&BK-sponsored event will feature the following line-up:

June 21: IRON MAIDEN, DETHKLOK, TYPE O NEGATIVE, MASTODON, HAMMERFALL, HATEBREED, OVERKILL, 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, SYMPHONY X, UNEXPECT, LAUREN HARRIS and more.

June 22: MÖTLEY CRÜE, 3 DAYS GRACE, ANTHRAX, SHADOWS FALL, PRIESTESS, DROWNING POOL and more.

Tickets: 75$ +tx – 135$ for a weekend pass.

I would love to make this, but I dont see it happening. Perhaps Hammerfall is doing a little tour or something since that seems to be the only announced for them.

Saw Hammerfall last summer in Quebec City during the Summer Festival. They were excellent even if I didn't know one song.
