Hellboy II: The Golden Army

Beyond excited for this. Del Toro is breaching the realms of genius. The initial Hellboy is one of my favourite ever movies, and with this one looking like a turbo charged version of the first, I'm super excited.

Pant wettingly excited.

2008 definitely is a year for movies.

Iron Man, Hulk, Hellboy, The Dark Knight, Hancock, A new Mummy movie, Tropic Thunder, Star Wars The Clone Wars, Death Race, Quantum of Solace (New bond movie), Transporter 3, and Punisher II.

According to Marvel, the upcoming Punisher is NOT a sequel and ended up being unrelated to the 2004 film.

Yep, it's a reboot. I thought the original Punisher was OK, but it lacked the darkness that The Punisher comics usually contain.

With this new one they seem to be trying to recapture the atmosphere of the comic books and with Ray Stevenson, who I rate very highly, I think it could be pretty sweet.

The Punisher should be decent... it has a pretty good crew behind the scenes, with Lexi Alexander directing (Hooligans) and Nick Santora (Prison Break) and Art Marcum (Iron Man) doing the writing duties. A more than worthy group of people to be doing it.

As for Hellboy 2, everything Guillermo Del Toro does is awesome so I'll be going to the theaters opening night for his latest production for sure.

I actually really liked the first Punisher, and I really wish they'd stop re-making movies only a few years later.

I thought the first Punisher movie was pretty good, and Thomas Jane was awesome. Now I don't read the comics so maybe it was too far off base from the real thing, but the trailers for the new one look rather silly. I don't see how Titus Pullo with that goofy high collar and obscured potbelly could be taken seriously.

Hmmm. Thomas Jane did a good job, his character was relatively close to the comics, but some other elements of the movie were a bit out. That said, considered as a whole it's pretty good.

I like Titus Pullo, and as Eric said, the team involved are pretty high quality.

Thomas Jane did an excellent rendition of Frank Castle. I thought it was an incredibly well played character in that movie. John Travolta did a great job as well. Really, I don't see why they'd have to remake it....

Unless it somehow ties in to The Avengers...

Are you sure about that? I thought they were just continuing on with another movie. The only reason Jane isn't involved was because of script issues when they started filming, but that's been long sorted out I hear, it was just too late to bring him back.

Actually the "first" Punisher made was with Dolph Lundgren, but I'm not one to split hairs.

So yeah, I loved the first Hellboy, so this one should be no exception.

From what I understand a sequel had been arranged with the same team, but it lingered in pre-production so long that a lot of people pulled out, Thomas Jane included. I think they decided to just go ahead with what had already been done, getting a new team in to continue the project.

I really don't know anything of the plot for the new one, haven't been following it at all. From what I recall reading recently though, is that after the initial problems, they tried continuing on with a new team, but even that failed. So they started all over again with a 3rd team and the movie has little resemblance to anything from the first stages. I could be wrong, I just seem to recall something about 3 scripts or groups of people working on it or etc.

I think you're right. That's how I conceive of the entire project, having read up on it pretty fully when Stevenson was attached and a release date was tagged.

Anyone hear about Edward Norton boycotting The Incredible Hulk? I can't seem to find the article, something about him refusing to do The Avengers as the Hulk...

There's also rumor of Nathan Fillion playing as Captain America.

THAT would be pretty interesting...

He's just pissed about his lack of creative control over the movie. To be honest, with the universe becoming more established, they could dispense with him if required with no problem.

From what I gather it was all rumors and hearsay blown out of proportion. He had issues, but not as extreme as it was made out to be.
