Greetings everyone.
It was inevitable that I would end up here sooner or later since Opeth is easily the most amazing band on the planet. As with alot of things, I'm a "Johnny come lately." I just got into Opeth about a year ago. My Arms Your Hearse was my first Opeth purchase (The best $16 I've EVER spent!) I have to admit - it wasn't really what I was expecting, but I immediately knew I discovered something special.
One of the things that blows me away with this band is that I've been listening to Opeth cd's EVERYDAY for the last year and have not even come close to burn-out like you do with some bands. I'm sure some of you can relate to this. Listening to the song "Harvest" has become a nightly ritual for me while sparking the bong. I LOVE THAT SONG MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF!!!! Opeth is one of the few bands that could put out an all acoustic/ballad album and their fans would still love them just the same.
I have not seen them play live yet, but that is definitely at the top of the list.
The ONLY other band that ever inspired me as much as Opeth is SKINNY PUPPY. For those of you who don't already know, Skinny Puppy is the shit!!!!
Other bands I'm into:
Puppy, Download, Strapping Young Lad/Devin Townsend, Voivod, Meshuggah, Fear Factory, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Dillinger Escape Plan, Botch, Neurosis, Today Is The Day, Isis, Luddite Clone, Human Remains, Burnt By The Sun, Nasum, His Hero Is Gone, Deadguy, Coalesce, Unsane, Spiral Architect, Gordian Knot, Splattercell, Diamanda Galas, The Meters, John Mclaughlin/Trilok Gurtu, Steve Tibbets, King Crimson, Rush (old), and of course...Hendrix.
Help a brother out (fill in the blank)...
If you like Opeth you should check out____________.
Someone tell me about Porcupine Tree. Mikael keeps mentioning this band in interviews and I'm definitely curious.
I think that's enough for my first post.
