EDIT:- New thread about Helloween since we were going off topic in the other one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for the interesting discussion, folks. You guys are making me think of bands I hadn't listened to in years. I used to love Helloween back in the day. Still the original line-up?

God no! lol Kai Hansen left in 1989. Then Michael Kiske, the vocalist from the "classic lineup" was fired in 1993. And their original drummer Ingo Schwitchtenberg committed suicide in 1995. :(

The only two remaining original members are Markus Grosskopf (phenomenal bass player!) and Michael Weikath. I still love them, and they remain a fave band of mine. Even though they are a little different now to how they were in the 80's!

That was so sad about Ingo. :(

Yep, I know, he was only 29 when he died, which just makes it all the more horrible. :(

He wasnt taking the medication for his schizophrenia, that coupled with his drug abuse were probably contributing factors to his death. There's also been talk about him becoming further depressed because of being fired from Helloween about a year and a half before he died. Its such a shame, and he was a great drummer too. :( \m/

Completely. Me and my mate were Helloweening it to the max on the way to his gig and back last weekend and were talking about him.

This song is my favourite drum work of his. It truly is "savage".

A fairly new fan, but really getting into them as of late. My favourite songs of the moment are Halloween, Future World and Crazy Cat (that last one much to the dismay of my mate! )

Savage is epic!!! Yet they release things like Shitmill as a single. Riiiiiiight... :err:

is this the band with the song i want out?

n

Yep, that's the one. :D

I remember ages ago sending you a Helloween song, and you didnt think much of it. :p It was Phantoms Of Death, I remember saying you might like it cos the main riff sounded like 2 Minutes To Midnight.

Halloween is a monster song! That's definitely one of their all time best. \m/

Haha, Ingo's pet name for Windmill! He really hated that song. lol Actually, he didn't like the direction the band went in with Chameleon. I think Michael Kiske was the main guy behind the change in sound, which is the reason he ended up being fired.

What you might not know, is that Roland actually wrote "Crazy Cat" about his own cat! :D

Funny, I have that one on my ipod now. It's my friend (the drummer of Maiden Scotland actually) who's got me into them.

Yup! That's why I called it so. ;) It is pretty pants tho. :ill: I like Chameleon but I can see why alot of people don't.

That is awesome! m/ You really have a talent for art.

Thank you! This was just a quick doodle. :D

Ah well, better late than never eh? :p

I also like Chameleon, but my appreciation for that album developed over time. When I first heard it at the time of its release, I think the drastic change in sound was too much of a shock for me. I agree, I can see why some people dont like it. There's not much metal on the album really...

Thank you! This was just a quick doodle. :D

A quick doodle? I couldnt have done that if you gave me several hours! You're welcome.

Ahhh, well I obviously wasn't exaggerating when I said it's been years since I'd listened to them. Thanks for the update, sad as it is. I saw them live circa 1988-89.

And, Jenna, that's a helluva "doodle"!

You saw them live in the Kiske era? Im so jealous! :worship:

You live in the US, so when you saw them, it would have been when Kai Hansen left the band, as he left after the European leg of the tour. They did the US leg with Roland Grapow. Ive only seen them live once, when they played Glasgow in 2006. That is definitely in my top 5 gigs of all time, was an awesome night! Still, I wish I could have seen them with Michael Kiske, you're so lucky. ;)

Lucky you!! My friend's just lent me the Live On Three Continents dvd. I can't wait to get stuck into it.

Why thank you! (Quick by my standards is about an hour and a half btw! ;) )

Since we have a Helloween thread, I might as well branch out here. Does anyone like Place Vendome?

This is the most played song on my ipod. I just ADORE it!! It's so happy! The lines, "So just hold my hand and I'll show you my second home..." and "On these streets I feel so free, I'm walking miles without misery..." make me think of one of my all time favourite cities - Glasgow! :D

Yep, agreed that is an awesome song! Despite all the crap Michi (Michael Kiske) has came out with about metal over the years, he's still a great rock/metal singer, one of the best! He needs to take his head from his backside imo though...

It doesnt remind me of Glasgow though, but thats probably cos I live in a scummy part ruled by neds... lol

It's not meant to remind you of Glasgow tho - cos that is your home, not your second one! :p It make ME think of how I feel about Glasgow. :D
