Hell's Heroes Fest

Hell's Heroes fest in Houston has emerged as a great festival opportunity for Americans here in the middle of the country. I attended for the first time this year and may have to make it an annual event. The highlights for me were Autopsy, Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, Demolition Hammer, Wytch Hazel, and Sodom.

Here are a couple shots from Day 1. I got to know the owners of Inferno merch as well as Nancy Reifert and spent a lot of time hanging out with them over the 3 days. Nancy provided an opportunity for me to meet Chris Reifert who turned out to be super cool, very humble, and even a bit shy. Autopsy's set got cut short by the absolutely retarded response of the venue to a potential storm that never materialized but they played a good part of Severed Survival. Candlemass played Nightfall in it's entirety as well as a few other tracks from their early albums. I rode out the storm at the front for a good part of Autopsy's set and all of Candlemass's, but the incessant crowd surfers were hella annoying. I moved off to the side the next night. That's just the actual skyline haha, but yeah you're right and I didn't notice that. The lawn was a proper morass for an Autopsy show.

Yeah I got that from your mention of the potential storm. Fitting for a fest with doomy bands. Not as fitting as that time Ozzy played Bark at the Moon to a solar eclipse though.

The best I experienced was moshing to Venom at dusk playing in the pouring rain in a parking lot at MDF. One of my favorite concert experiences.

Highlight of night two: Solitude Aeturnus reunion. I think it was the best sounding set from the lawn. Met the band after the show and got more stuff signed:

Day 3 highlights - Wytch Hazel and Sodom

It's an inside bit. We found out that we have the same last name (her maiden name obviously) and that we hail from the same region of the country. We were comparing our family trees at the fest.

An awesome surprise came in the mail yesterday from Chris and Nancy Reifert. This personalized and signed stick was used by Chris during the Autopsy set at Hell's Heroes!
