As a fanboy of sort, I just blindly ordered this new Helstar live dvd and was wondering if anyone here has already seen it? The footage is from the 2001 Bang Your Head festival and here's the setlist:

1 Evil Reign
2 Winds of War
3 Baptized in Blood
4 King is Dead
5 Dracula's Castle
6 Run With The Pack
7 The Benediction
8 Shadows of Iga

Anyway, I'm not really expecting this to be a very high profile release, but I know that James still sounds as good as he ever did and track listing's fine too (a tad short though).

I would be very interested to hear what you think of it. I am a life long Helstar fan. And I am looking forward to your review. If your feedback is positive I am going to order it as well. O and the fact that it is a low profile release is more of an advantage than a disadvantage to me.

Sure, there's some great "underground" dvds around, like Jag Panzer's. I just hope that this one isn't essentially just a "bootleg with a booklet" like the Twas The Night... live cd. Which is a great performance but the sound quality's really poor.

Well, I'm glad there's at least some Helstar video material out there and I'll give you my thoughts of this one when it arrives.

I finally got around to watching this DVD and I have to say it was pretty impressive! I have only owned one Helstar release and that was Nosferatu but it was stolen from my truck a few weeks after I got it. I never replaced it, regretfully. Watching this DVD reminded me that I need to search out that release and pick it up! OK, now back to the DVD.

It is fairly good in its overall quality. Only a few shots that are a little blurry. It is a straight forward metal show, just guitars, drums and vocals, oh and a synth thrown in on one song! No flash pots or flashy outfits. The only thing I noticed that doesn't seem to fit here is lead guitarist has a pink guitar but he does make up for it with ability! The bass player has a really cool stance when he is really getting into a riff!

Most of the camera angles seem to be repetitive and the crowd starts out small at the beginning of the set but you get the impression that it grows as they play through!

There is some good close up shots of the guitar playing but none of the drummer.

Overall I would say if you love Helstar its a must! If you like straight forward outdoor live heavy metal concert footage you can't miss here!

So I finally got this yesterday and I was positively surprised! Apparently the thing was filmed by BYH's own camera crew and the quality's really good. I was afraid this would be some sort of a quasi-bootleg but it's pro shot, multiple cameras and everything. The sound's ok too, although James' vocals "vanish" from time to time. But no big issues there.

And the band itself is smoking! Apparently the only guys from the 80s Helstar are James and the bass player, Jerry Abarca, but the guitar duo is awesome. I know the guy with long hair is Eric Halpern but I didn't recognize the other one. No problems even with the insane Nosferatu riffage and the sound is definitely Helstar.

As for the additional content... there is none. It's just the show and while it is really good, I wouldn't have minded to see some stuff from the 80s maybe. Also the packaging is very stripped down but that's really no big deal. The fans can buy this one without worrying, it is worth your buck.

Oh, and the tracklisting I posted earlier seems to be incorrect, they also play Angel of Death, right after Dracula's Castle.

Helstar also has a decent website now to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Remnants Of War and they've even put the whole album to the website for people to listen to! So if you've never heard this classic piece of US metal, click here.:headbang:
