I can see maybe trying to clear out old promos and selling them for like a starting value of 50 cents apiece or something. But even then, do it AFTER the album is released.

This is just a clear cut, blatant attempt at bilking the public and ripping off the band and label. If anyone has a label or Agalloch band member email, feel free to forward the listing to them.

This guy is clearly trying to profit off of an advance promo copy of the new Agalloch.

My opinion on downloading is that if you're doing it to circumvent buying an album, it's stealing. If you're using it to gage whether or not to buy an album, I don't have a problem with it. But still, I do not want this thread to tangent off into another downloading debate. It's old, tired, and not nearly as black and white as what this fucker is doing.

Don't get me wrong here, personally I'm not against downloading anything. I don't give a fuck if someone downloads my music, maybe they like it and buy it later.

Some poor fucker has got the promo and made a review for it, reviewing records is usually very shitty job (most of the records are shit) and most of these amateur reviewers doesn't get any payment, only the records and these days, those are usually fucked too, there are some cuts or spoken parts etc. I'm not approving selling promos before the records are release, but who's to blame here, the LABEL, this album has been ready a quite while and still there's a lot of time before release-date. I know marketing is important, but fuck the labels, when they keep the ready release almost half a year before releasing it.

Believe me, I've been there (stacks of lousy promos with multiple reviews to do for no type of payment). But remember, these people CHOOSE to do the reviewing and sacrifice their time voluntarily. The benefits include getting albums that DO rock ahead of time, press passes at shows, contact with band members, etc.

If it gets to be too much, just throw in the towel, like basically all of us at RC ended up doing. We were a victim of our own successes and it took away from ability to review for sheer enjoyment. I never once thought that "well, I'm slaving away here and getting nothing in return monetarily, therefore I'm going to try and make as much money as I can to sell a shitty promo version of an album before it's released".

Anyway, thanks for the reply - but I just think what this guy's doing is fundamentally wrong on all levels.

Same here, I'm starting to get impatient and can't wait to order it...what this asshole is doing is much worse than downloading for personal use because he's abusing label privileges (haha, for all who dread getting promos) for profit...tell the End to put him off the list.
