Neither are exactly ideal frontmen, I think it's cool that guys who aren't natural born singers can attain the success they both have by writing good songs. It's part of the reason I was able to begin to think about singing vs. just playing the guitar. Not everyone can be Bruce Dickinson, Devin Townsend, Howard Jones, Christian Älvestam, etc.

It is not necessary to be a great singer. It is only necessary to be a RECOGNIZEABLE singer.

So many bands prove that time and time again: Placebo, Type O Negative, AC/DC ... and of course Megadeth/Metallica, too.

Personally, I'll take "Thing That Should Not Be" over "Lucretia" any day of the week.

If you were to compare song for song ... Puppets is better than Rust

Not saying Rust isn't an awesome cd, without a doubt my favorite Megadeth but to say Metallica has never done anything close to it is a bit of a stretch

of course this is all opinion

To me nothing Mustaine has ever done has come close to what Hetfield has done. Sure, Mustaine is really good (even though his singing is bollocks ) but James has that magic that makes him excell amidst his "peers".
