Hey! I'm Matt, been roaming these forums for quite some time now but never joined (don't ask me why, I'm just a lazy fucker). I'm a recording engineer from the UK, I'm the lead guitarist in the band Darkadian, and I run a small mixing/mastering studio from my home. I used to track bands too but since moving house I haven't had the space :(

Anyway, below is my band's latest. I'm currently producing our first full-length, none of which has a dedicated mix yet as such. We have a general sound, but with every new song it changes a little so I'm holding off until it's all written/recorded to decide fully. We may even re-amp the guitars through our other guitarist's Engl Savage, but that's also undecided.

This song is a weird one for us, as it's on a 6 string in drop C, and we're usually on 7 strings in Bb standard or drop Ab. Anyway, enjoy! (or try to!)

Darkadian - One Foot Out The Grave

Here is a vid of the track I wrote/recorded before that one ^ , but it'll be re-recorded and re-mixed as I've acquired new gear since recording this (new guitar/pickups that sound much better!)

Surprised you haven't posted here earlier Matt.
Guess SS.org being down has motivated you to post here? :p

Nope! ss.org being a piece of shit has motivated me to post here  Nah it's cool, just doing my head in lately. I've been absent from there for a while now anyway, just go on to check PM's and stuff, might post every now and then, but I've migrated to mg.org mostly, even before ss went down. Anyway, good to see you dude, didn't even know you were a member here!

Yeah, admittedly ever since I became a member of UM, I just went straight to the Sneap forum, and I've been spending a fair bit of time here, and a lot less time at SS.org now.
Nice clip too.
There is a general attitude here that SS.org recording clips suck and it's good you're around to dispel the myth that all SS.org members know shit all about AE with some good sounding stuff:headbang:

Not surprised really! I mean, there are a few people on there that take it really seriously or do this for a living, but they're the people that rarely post clips. The studio forum has been absolutely ram packed full of kids trying to be Meshuggah for the last few months, it put me right off posting there.

Don't get me wrong, I don't profess to be any sort of great engineer in the slightest! We've all gotta start somewhere, i mean just listen to my band's demo from a couple of years ago - it's disgusting  but these kids don't want to produce metal for real or anything, they literally just throw their ideas down and 'djent' the shit out of it, and just assume that's the way ALL metal is conducted. That's probably why it's got such a bad rep.

That is exaftly why I stopped posting there a fair while ago. I lurk occasionally now, but I was just so sick of posting up clips of my death metal (needing genuine help with how to improve it) and getting hardly any comments/replies at all, and then some kid would post up a complete meshuggah clone of a clip and everyone would go nuts over it, no matter how generic/stale it sounded.

Cool song incidentally. It sounds like a big improvement on the stuff I've listened to you do before, which was a good while ago I'll add.

LOL I just started posting on SS.org again; now that the douchemods are on MG.org (which I have yet to visit... sounds to me like a shit version of this + ss.org? I dunno), it's quite a bit better than it used to be.

Welcome bro; digging your stuff. Solid use of that low B, not just mindless chugging or djent the entire time!

That One Foot Out Of The Grave song would sound so much better sped up 10-20 BPM, especially that melodic chorus bit! Consider it broseph!

Thanks! I tried it faster man, totally lost its character and groove! It'll sound a bit more upbeat with vocals (here's hoping!). MG.org is cool, but if you didn't like the old mods on ss.org then you won't like it there  It's pretty much their own little club, and is slow as hell. But it's got less bullshit on it than ss.org, i'll give it that.

Hey K Odell!

Dylan S - yeah it's a shame, it had a lot of potential and I learned a lot from that place when I first started out, but then it just got fucking ridiculous. I used to help people out constantly too, and now it just gets overlooked and unheard. People only want your 'advice' if your 'advice' consists of OMGZ HOW DOO YOO GET DAT T0N3!?!? *DJENTDJENTDJENT*. Fuck it man, I love Meshuggah, and I've flirted with that production style myself, but it wasn't for me or my band's music so I moved on. I just can't wait for the trend to pass.

Really gotta comment on the actual playing itself........FUCKING KILLER DUDE!
You've got some classy chops bro, no question about it.

I've tried giving advice in the SS.org recording forum too.
Sometimes guys listen, other times "WHAT DO YOU MEAN MY GUITAR TONE IS TOO SCOOPED?" or some garbage like that.
I fucking ADORE Meshuggah and their music, but unless you post a "TEH DJENTZ" clip at SS.org it just gets ignored most of the time sadly.
I realized the production style I'm more aiming for something else, because at heart really I'm more of a thrash metal and death metal guy (as well as groove metal too like Chimaira and Gojira), and I know you're big a Dimebag fan, Matt).
Be sure to definitely stick around Matt, with the genres you go for in your production style you'll fit in so easily here and there's plenty of great guys here.
