Hey Salty

As much as I'm a Beazley fan, I think Rudd is doing a great job at gaining voter confidence in his first run at everything, with his listening tour he seemed to gain a lot of support.

Beazley was getting into a trend of agreeing with a lot of things that Johnny was going for that weren't really popular issues, like the signing of values statements by overseas visitors...Rudd come in and just scrapped that idea, which made a lot of people happy.

I think Beazley has a charisma that Rudd really lacks, but the image doctors and publicity people were quick to jump on the whole "Rudd was a battler and had a rough childhood" which i think has endeared him to the people. As much as I think he can come across as a prat in press conferences, he does have a great outlook for Australia and can be a really funny bastard. We used to have to attend press conferences for work, and he would always start off by making fun of our company for being there as we were contracted by Alexander Downer's office haha.

But, Beazley had his run at it and couldn't get past a very important point which is voter trust and confidence despite being leader. Rudd I think has gained that in an extrodinarily quick time and I think runs the best chance Labor has had for years.

He'll be the PM next year.

Queensland will win it for him...if he can swing all the steadfast Nationals voters on the land, they've got it.

Now they've changed the boundaries to the Federal seat of Macquarie, Labor will shit in here. The only reason Bartlett got in was because of the toffy-noses around Richmond and Hawkesbury and the petty bourgeoisie around Winmalee and Lapstone. Now that Richmond and Hawkesbury aren't part of Macquarie anymore and Lithgow and Bathurst are, the ALP will steamroller everyone in this part of the world. Kelly might hold Penrith, but she'll be lucky this time.

Interesting to read all those comments. I haven't been in Australia at all since Rudd took over, so I've had no idea how things have been going for him. He doesn't have the charisma that Bomber has, but he's a fucking smart bugger, and is the ALP's best bet, I reckon.

Good to hear that things are looking up in your lovely part of the world, Brian!

Beazly was by far a more superior leader, Rudd is just terrible, him and Gillard will have the country running a defecit in 4 years. Unfortunately I think Rudd has the goods to win, he does look and sound impressive even to me, even though he is just blowing smoke out of his arse, and I hate the knob.

We would be in shit territory if/when Rudd is PM and Costello is Liberal leader, or if Costello PM and Rudd opposition leader, both are very sly individuals whom I hope never have the opportunity to run the country.

Are we gonna get into the whole arguement of who actually fucks up the economy and who repairs it again?

Oh and Go Rudd! Bomber is good, but has had to many stabs at it and never got anywhere

Labor fuck it Liberal fix it, people for some reason want change and it happens again.

The first 4 or so years under Labor I think will be tops because they will piss all the money up against the wall, then Liberal's will use common sense and go steady and keep things good again.

I also think that Labor would be in power by now if they just kept Beazly in charge when he was leader like 10 years ago instead of fucking around with some of the biggest duds in politics such as crean and latham, though I'm happy they did, made Howards job alot easier :headbang:

I'm not sure that fucking up the financial forecasts by $12B is necessarily good management of the economy.

If their sums can be out that much, it could just as easily been an $11Bn Defecit.

Good luck, and the fact that we are digging shitloads of stuff up and sending it overseas at ridiculously low prices.

I can't remember, but I think it is the ATO website that has the economy figures spanning back decades, and the economy is always at it's strongest the years Labour are in government

Apparently running up record current account deficits is good economic management these days. That aspect of the economy is conveniently overlooked by all Howard govt supporters.

Someone should look at the figures for when Howard was Treasurer. When Hawke got elected, he inherited 21% interest rates from the Fraser/Howard government. Hawke and Keating managed to knock them down to around 17% by the time Howard got in as PM. He can crow all he likes about how low interest rates are now, but relatively speaking, they're higher now than they were in 1980, when they were 22.5% or something. And guess who the Treasurer was then? John Winston Howard.

Exactly! So much for Labor fucking things up and the Tories fixing them up. People pay more back in interest now than they did under Labor.
