I think its more of a record company thing than anything else.Maiden sold a lot of their rights a couple of years ago on the stock market.

It's the record company plundering the old catalog. More than likely, if the band did agree to have it released, they're probably getting a better songwriting royalty rate for the songs being re-released in this compilation than what they get for the songs on their albums now.

I may be wrong, but this line are on their first discs: 'the copyright in this sound recording is owned by EMI records ltd.'
and on the newer discs (starting with no prayer for the dying): 'the copyright in this sound recording is owned by Iron Maiden Holdings ltd under exlusive license to EMI records ltd.'

So I assume that starting from NPFTD they have all copyrights, and they choose what label may released the material.
So I guess they (Maiden themselves) decided to release another best-of. Wouldn't be bad with all those 'fake numetalfans' to have some promotion in this way...

BTW someone told me about this forum, I'm a maiden fan since i started listening to music... that is since 1995... hello all! Will check the iron maidens out as well ;) Cheers!

at last there will be a picture disc released as well from Edward the Great... I'll go for that one instead of the box... because 110€ for the box is really way too much, how addicted am I to Maiden, it's insane :(

I've wondered too why they have released second best of-compilation... Was there only 1-2 songs that doesn't exist on Best Of The Beast?

Well, I'm not gonna buy that one...

well, best of the beast is no longer available... It was going to be reissued as the double disc version along with the last series of reissues, but it never happened... I'm hoping to get this one for free from my Chipster contact for review on my site, but if that doesn't happen, I will buy it... (I can't find my copy of BotB anywhere...)

also I think this is a proper greatest hits collection... I don't think all of the songs in Best of the Beast were singles... I think all of these are... (but then again, I may be talking out of my arse,.... wouldn't be the first time)

The fact that there is not one single song from the Paul DiAnno era tells me something sticks about this best of. How could you not even put their trademark song "Iron Maiden" in it? You won't see me buying this best one.

Personally, and in all fairness, I don't think a "best of" could fit on a single cd.

I suppose we'll find out tomorrow, but as of today I was checking out the release dates in the system at Wherehouse Music and it's saying that "Eddie's Archive" is out this 26th, and "Edward the Great" won't be out until December 3rd. "Best ofs." Ah, who needs em? :puke:

If you post on this board, I'd assume you have already acquired enough Maiden to fully pride yourself on. But collectors, hey, if you've got the money to blow - feel free.
