I don't know, it sounds out of phase to me.

Sorry, but what exactly does "punching in" mean? I get that it's replacing notes or fixing a note while recording over but is there anything else to that? What makes it different than just recording again and replacing a note bad note with a good one from the new recording?

How is this done in Logic?

I have no idea how you do it on Logic, but I always thought that punching in just meant selecting the area you want to re-record, then recording :D Thats what the Reaper instructions say anyway, i prefer editing note by note.

Yeah, looking into it, Logic has a "Punch on the Fly" mode or also just to where you can setup a certain area where you want it to start/stop recording and that will be the punch in area.

I used to be a strict advocate of "entire song/continuous guitar part in one take". That's how my first demos were all done. For my full length, I got a solid take on the entire song, and then punched in certain sections that I felt needed a better performance.

For my new stuff, I think I'll record two-three riffs at a time, to keep the transitions smooth and natural and to save time with tracking.

Answered riff by riff but actually more like section by section. For demo stuff of myself playing I often go with bigger chunks, since nobody's really going to hear that stuff expect my bandmates and me, so sloppy playing and mistakes don't really matter.
