I've got an acoustic that sounded great for 4 years with the same strings.

I changed them a week ago and it sounds like crap now, has to be the ONLY time changing strings has worsened tone in mankind's history

Once. Was in a rehearsal, didn't have my stand (but had one at home with another guit on it)...leaned it up on the amp to chill out between songs, turned away, guitar fell over and this happens (that's after I tried to glue it back- no go on that):

^^ Really hard for me not to say that you totally deserved that.

Also: I can't count how many times I have heard "YEAH! new strings, durp put them on Friday played a show Saturday though."

Bass players seem to be the fucking worse offenders all around. Cheap mother fuckers.

Yeah it was an epic fail moment but that was nearly 15 years ago so no big deal now.

And yeah I kind of figured this thread was mostly for bands bringing in shitty strings/guitars to record but seeing that pic reminded me of the guitar in the pic I posted lol.

I've only done this once, I'd only been playing bass for about 6 months... and had not even touched the tip of the iceberg on proper recording etiquette...

Now I'm proper anal about new strings and other such things...

Seeing as i'm not recording my bass as much i've reverted back to being a cheapass and have a set of warwick EMPs on my 5 string and haven't changed them in months... still got tone though...

along with strings how about...:

"Have you changed the batteries in your guitar"
"What batteries"
"The ones powering your EMGs"
"They need batteries...?"
*Facepalm with a desk*

Is this some joke I don't understand or are Gibson necks really that flimsy?

Two of them were epiphones, one was an sg that i broke at the body+neck on stage after being violent with it. other two were from falling off stands. i don't know why they can't get their shit together. if i want a durable neck, i opt for bolt on.

but i don't charge enough to worry about strings, if they have a problem, i'll give them a run down of why.

Happens every fucking time I see a "guitarist" or "bassist".

Me: Are those new strings?
Idiot: YAH MAN! Changed 'em last week!

FUCK.

Even worse:
(on the phone)
Me: Buy ernie ball roundwound bass strings. Make sure they are at least .115 on the low end cause you're in drop tunings.
Bassist: OH YAH sure MAN, see YAH in a bit.

Mother fucker shows up with .105 FLAT wound strings!!!!! Of course, already installed by the shop cause he can't do it himself or exchange the strings.

Me: Why did you do that?
Idiot bassist: Oh, the dude in the shop hooked me up, he said they'd be sick for my bass.
Me: You know you are playing metal right?
Idiot bassist: Ah nah man, it'll be chilll

GAHHHHHHHHH

Are you near the Northeast of England? This is exactly the dialogue I hear all of the time... and a lot of guitarists/most bassists up hear don't take much on board when it comes to setting up their instrument too, so they go to a shop that charges about £2-£3 more for guitar strings and trusts them to make the right decision for them.... fffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Another Piss boiler is kids walking aroud with BC Rich/Dean guitars/basses and not having the right size case for them so the headstock is sticking out... in the middle of fucking winter...

IMHO unless you've paid top dollar these instruments aren't that great anyway... but still...
