Hi guys,

Having great difficulty finding a vht 2/50/2 in the used market over here at the moment, so i'm wondering if it is a realistic task to grab one from the states and have a mod done on it to make it play good with our electrics. I dont fancy running it with a convertor block really.

Thanks muchly!

Here's what I was told by a dude who has done it here (VHT 2/90/2)

" it has a multi tap transformer that requires 2 wires to be de-soldered & soldered together to make it 240volt, a replacement fan & a new fuse "

Yep just fix the wiring and cut the fuse size in half and you should be good to go. The fan must run off the mains side of the trans, so you'd just have to switch it out with a 240v AC one.

I'm pretty sure Steve would gladly tell you what needs to be done if you email him- support@fryette.com

yeah tis great stuff! I did email steve before about it, but he didnt respond unfortunately. I'll end him another one and hopefully he'll have chance to respond with a schematic. Will let you know how I get on : )

He won't give out schematics, he's very anal about that. You'll never find them online either. But it should be simple enough without them.

Yep thats definitely fair enough Eric. Ive googled everywhere so far, and am waiting to be allowed to post a thread on the fryette forum. For some reason support@fryette.com is dead as a dodo at the mo which doesnt help lol. All I want is an idiots guide to doing the mod really. I can solder ok, but know jack all about electronics any more.

Once you get it, I can easily help you out. All it will take is a multimeter on your end, and a few pictures and we can get it set up properly.

Eric, you're an absolute gent dude. Should be here in a week or 2. Would we avoid killing me as well? lol. One question though, would I need a step down transformer to power the amp when doing the tests?

That would work the best. Even if you have 'something' that puts out AC lower than 120v, that would work as well (something like a variac).
