Just traded a mint condition Marshall 2x12 w/T75's straight up for an ADA MP-2 in mint condition and an MP-1 with light rack rash. PREPARE FOR BRUTALITY. Clips when I get home hopefully :)

HOLY SHIT. This thing is amazing. Will have a clip up later tonight. It's taking long because I can't stop just jamming with it!

It's the MP-2 that is blowing me away. I use to own two MP-1's, one modded and one stock...it was actually my first tube setup, coupled with a Peavey Classic 60 tube power amp. The MP-1 is so vintage sounding in comparison. The MP-2 is definitely a METAL preamp. Definitely the best metal tone I've recorded to date at my home. I'm running the preamp through a Mesa Dual Recitifier FX Return and then into my Mesa 4x12 (V30), SM57 into MOTU 8Pre.

Here it is guys.

EC-1000 w/ EMG-81 straight into the MP-2, no TS. MP-2 -> Dual Rectifier FX Return -> Mesa 4x12 V30 -> SM57 on-axis -> MOTU 8Pre. Only processing is low pass at 12kHz and a hi pass at 80Hz.

Yeah ADA MP preamps are great, I used one back in 97 for a recording through a MESA and they kicked ASS like no other:rock::rock::rock::rock:

I wish I had the 400 pounds sterling at the time to get the preamp and foot controller but I didn't have any money spare.

I wonder what an ADA would sound like through a Soldano??

Damn! Some pure hatred there Maur. I'm loving this thing though, it sounds really raw, which I was missing from the JSX. I'm hoping that the Bugera 333 paired up with the MP-2 will be a killer sound. LOL I'm still hoping the 333 is even a good amp to begin with.

Well, two things I think are helping the sound:

1) Going through the Recto power section

2) I know what mids are, and I use them

A lot of people that use the MP-2 don't know what mids are apparently. My friend has an MP-2 -> Peavey Classic 50/50 -> Mesa 4x12 and it sounds brutal, but has no mids, so as soon as the drums start going off he turns to mush. Then again I think I remember he has a BBE 462 in the loop of the MP-2 and I'll bet one of those knobs are cranked. Anyway, I had always heard the MP-2 was a piece of shit, but never tried one myself. Boy am I glad that I got the guy to trade me both because the MP-1 in stock form is just not metal at all, IMO. This trade reminded me of how much of a huge difference modding your MP-1 makes. The MP-1 is more 80's, extremely warm and rounded in comparison. The MP-2 (stock) reminds me of like...a rodded Marshall or something, just really raw and everything. The MP-1 in stock setup is a really great lead preamp, it will give you those really FAT lead tones, but it just will not do cutting metal rhythms unless it's modded with either the 3TM, 3.666, or one of the other mods to make it more like a modern hi-gain amp.

I may record a snippet of the MP-1 doing the same track, and I will work with it as much as possible in the room to see how close of a metal sound I can get with it. So you guy can see the big difference between the two preamps. I'll process it the same as I did the MP-2 clip, only a hi and low pass.

After messing with it a bit more, the MP-1 is showing more promise of a good rhythm amp, but still has some work to be done. Still has that really round sound to it...all I can think of is cardboard box. It's wierd.

sounds good.

But since I got my rockmaster I lost all the lust for the ADAs.

just one question. why did you used the 8pre and not the saffire?

I would like to know since a friend of mine is between the two and asked me for advice. You are the only guy I know that owns both units.

sorry to hijack!

I just had the SM57 hooked to that already and I was just trying to get a quick clip. I am going to do another clip tonight probably, and I can do a comparison between the Saffire's preamps and the 8Pre's. I'm also going to be trying it out with my TS-9 in front of the MP-2. Both have great pres, but the Saffire has better conversion, more connectivity and outputs for reamping. Overall the Saffire is a much better deal. I bought the 8Pre first because it was a solid interface for less $$ than the other 8-channels out there, then the Saffire to have as the main interface for the better conversion, reamping capabilities and the ability to hook up two other 8-channel units via ADAT (8Pre and my Behringer ADA8000).
