Overkill has awesome bass lines and the occasional solo. Early Metallica and Iron Maiden are damn good...Motörhead, of course, features the badass basswork of God himself.

Bassists aren't always considered "vital" to a band, so they usually get denied any part in having a good rhythm going. Turd burglars. Heh, Jess Walker was singer AND bassist in Carcass, so he got to have fun with both.

I tend to have trouble playing a normal guitar, so I might just have to bass myself. Woe unto they who tell me "No amazing bass riffs."
Allot of Bassists are disgrunteled guitar players wh have realized they suck at guitar, so turn to bass instead. The problems is that they still think like a guitarist, and simply double the guitar parts.

Fuck you very much sir. I can play guitar just fine, but prefer lower tones. I can either play a "B" tuned guitar, or a bass. I like both, and would prefer neither over the other. You must not be able to play a bass guitar very well.
