I was wondering what any of you would think, or if you knew, how to obtain the big drum sound that Suffocation has had recently. I've experimented with different techniques and have had interesting results.

I'm about to record and will only be triggering the kick, and the rest will be natural, but miked reasonably.

Did they track to tape on the self titled release, did they in fact trigger? Parallel compression?

I'm friends with Terrance, and Joe who recorded their last album. It's all samples on the drums and Mike (who is indeed the man) doesn't like using samples at all. Nothing fancy on that record. Joe said that the only good pre that he has is a 737.
