I need the tabs to 21st Century Schizoid Man...

One of the classic riffs of all time and it still sounds massive today, but the song clearly owes more to chaotic jazz. And nothing will ever change my opinion that Black Sabbath, the song, owns the right to the title of ancestor of all metal.

Although this thread is entirely a joke (what, you fuckers forgot about the tab bullshit from just last week!? and you call me a drunk...), the main riff of the song is one of the first very metallic sounding passages recorded, but not the definitive one. Besides, the main harmony line is played on horns anyhow. :Spin:

I've had that beer before BWD, it's okay. Nothing special though. :)

Haha, I got the tabs joke but what the heck is 21st Century Schizoid Man??? That's a King Crimson song no doubt?

*goes to check*

Funny - looking it up on CDuniverse, it seems Forbidden, Voivod, and Entombed have all covered it at some point. :tickled:

How can it be the first metal song if it came out in 1972? Sabbath had a 24 month headstart. And how could it be metal anyway, considering it was King Crimson? :loco:

Actually, in all seriousness, the first "metal" song is usually considered to be In-A-Gadda-Da-Vidda by of course, Iron Butterfly. It's the first time fans were known to headbang in the audience at least.

Though if you ask me - yeah, I realize no one ever does - that old blues jam "How Many More Years" is definitely the first song to really feature hard rock-style chord progression. Zeppelin turned it up a bit and gave birth to "How Many More Times" on their debut album in 1968. It's heavy as shit considering the time it came out.

I'm giving the nod to the Velvet Underground honestly, 1967 for any song off White Light / White Heat. Well, I'm giving a nod I should say, there are countless bands I haven't heard that probably have a lot to do with creating metal. What about Blue Cheer? Weren't they noisy as all hell?

Forgot to say that you really need to hear this, just so in the future you can say "yeah sure, I know what you're talking about" and look cool in front of peers and elders.

With the second kid on the way, I'm already a peer or elder. :loco:

Well then on the double! If we ever start tossing compilations back and forth I'll put that on there. Wait... you gave me that Iron Maiden comp, maybe it's time for me to reciprocate. :loco:

I still owe you a Power Metal (done right) compilation CD. I should probably make you a CD-R of Avantasia and be done with it. :) That reminds me, I'm interviewing Tobias Sammett tomorrow...

By the way, thanks for the paypal. Now, how about some nice furry dice and rubber floor mats? :loco:

I apologize in advance for this, but here's the gist of the main riff to the song:

NOTES:
I don't play guitar.
Since I do not play guitar, I really suck at it.
This is an acoustic guitar.
This is an old and beaten acoustic guitar.
This is an old and beaten acoustic guitar played through the noisiest single coil pickup in the world and the sound is further destroyed with a bass overdrive pedal.
I'm sorry.

How the heck do people claim to be music fans without KNOWING about music?????

I've been saying for years that ItCotCK invented ProgMetal, back in August 1969, even if it wasn't even Krimso's best album.

Nice try NAD, I added you to my instant message buddy list. You too MarkGugs
