Hey 've been wanting to write my own song for a long itme now but I just can't freakin do it. Cna any of you guys give me tips to write a solid metal song?

are you using theory to help you? like making sure you stay in the right key. also, using a certain mode or scale for a solo/riff always sounds good.

The best tip ever for good songwriting:

Listen to music that's better than you.

Why?

Because listening to better written music raises your standard o writing. Sure, it makes it harder to actually write the songs, but on the bright side, when you finish it, it will only turn out that much better.

That's what I do at least. Not exactly the best advice, I know, but if you know your stuff, then advice like this could make all the difference.

And for an easier to follow tip:

As said before, make sure to stay in key. And if you decide to change key in the song, REMEMBER THAT YOU CHANGED KEY.

If you write songs based on tips given to you by other people, you'll end up sounding like all the other cookie cutter crap bands that are out today. I say keep at it and make something unique and innovative, and someday you'll be posting on your own forum.

When your ready to write a song, It'll just come to you. Do you play an instrument or sing? And I agree with some others, tips aren't gonna help. IMO

riffs
solos
That's the way

Use minor scales or harmonic minor scales(it's better if you want to make a metal song), have a good structure. Shred with taht and maybe you'll end with a good riff. Still I'm not really the good reference to tell you how to write a song . Bassicly its this.

Once you have an idea in your head, record it and add on to it if you can't write music well.
