Iced Earth- Plagues of Babylon lyric video

Pretty good.....I'm liking it too. It's great that we now have Iced Earth and Ashes of Ares out there.

Solid. Didn't blow me away, didn't disappoint.

This band is on a TEAR right now, between recording and the amount of touring they have been doing. Good for them..... Hope they keep it up. Love to see them live soon again.

Hrmmm..
On Dystopia they at least let Stu be Stu.
Seems like they sat Stu down and listen to Barlow and Chuck Billy for a month before recording.

I mean that fits IE perfectly. Anyhow, its just one track.

It was a good track, just a bit too formulatic for IE even.

I like Stu fronting Iced Earth more than I did Barlow (more blasphemy, but I was never a Barlow fan. At all.)

That said, I loved Stu in Into Eternity, and I really enjoyed what he brought to Dystopia. I agree with Jason on this one.. at least for this track, the vocals are formula Barlow.

I'm sure it'll be a release date pickup for me.. can't judge the album by one track, and its a pretty good track. :)

BIG BIG Iced Earth fan here. But I have to say I am not liking this song one bit. This could be the very first IE album that I don't buy.

Better than the last few IE albums. So there maybe hope for them after all. Ironically I like his Sons Of Liberty project better than IE, even though I don't buy into his lyrics and political beliefs. At least it's more open and honest that the IE machine ... which has to maintain the legacy of being heavy and "bad ass" to the point of being silly and false.

It's okay. I agree with some that it seems he tries too hard to be Barlow here, but more than anything this song is way too damn bloated. I love epic songs, but this thing could've been trimmed down significantly. It just plods along and isn't memorable one bit.

It's a solid song, that I suspect will grow on me with a few listens. However, I don't expect it to have a lot of staying power; it just feels too familiar.

It's odd... whenever I listened to Stu in Into Eternity, I never heard anything about his voice or style that was reminiscent of Matt's. I wonder if he's taking it upon himself to give Jon what he thinks Jon wants or if he's being coached to sound like Matt. I'd prefer he just do his own thing. Tim sounds nothing like Matt, and The Glorious Burden worked much better than the material with Stu.

I much prefer Dystopia over the Ripper albums. Dystopia was their best album since Something Wicked IMO.
Yes, the new song is a bit too long and sounds "familiar", but I like it. I do agree that Stu tries really hard to sound like Barlow, which is kinda weird.

To each their own. I agree with Zod in that "Glorious Burden" is one of the best things they've ever done. However, "Dystopia" is a very solid album and much better than the two pieces of crap that were the two "Wicked" albums.

Dystopia is a good album. However, my point about The Glorious Burden is only that Iced Earth doesn't require a vocalist who sounds like Matt to succeed. And to that end, I don't understand why they're trying to turn Stu into Matt.

Personally, I prefer singers to sound like themselves, not someone else.

As for the song, if you could describe a generic Iced Earth song, that would be it. It isn't bad, but it sounds like a song that would have been on the last couple of albums. What used to be fresh now sounds typical.

How deep into a band's career can the criticism for a new song be "This sounds an awful lot like this band."?

I don't hear too much of a difference in Stu's approach here than on Dystopia and the similarity to Matt is tangible. That's a fair criticism. Also, my main criticism is that it seems just a touch too slow for my tastes. That was my main dislike of that last album with Barlow...too slow and plodding. Not that Iced Earth are only supposed to thrash, but the agility of the early stuff is what I love most about the band, not necessarily just the epic feel. This was masterfully achieved on Dante's Inferno, but I'm not hearing that thrashiness I dig so much in that material here or on a lot of the most recent material. Maybe it's not what Jon wants anymore, and that's fine...it's just not my taste. There are still some excellent riffs here and I bet it will grow on me, just as Zod said. I will still purchase the album and give it a very honest listen.

What he said.

As much as I like Barlow - Stu was really good at beong Stu. Hope all the songs on the next CD don't try to be Barlow. Being a HUGE IE fan, I like this track very much!! Ready to see them live again!!!!

Man, I thought there might be some exaggeration to the claims of Stu mimicking Matt, but holy crap. He does a very apt Matt impersonation. I do wish he would do his own thing, though.

As for the song itself, it is classic IE. But I'm not sure I have much connection to new stuff that sounds that way at this point. My tastes have kinda drifted elsewhere. Dystopia didn't hold me. I'm not sure I'd drop the clams on a disc like this.
