I'm just now finding my way over here (great forum!) and thought I would post about this, sorry if it has already been discussed but anyone seen this news about an Icon reunion? From Melodicrock:

The return of Icon? It seems the answer is yes, even though only guitarists Dan Wexler and Jon Aquilino from the original line-up are part of the new line-up - which will be announced/showcased at the below event:

Arizona's 80's & 90's rock acts reunite to perform to benefit Arizona Animal Welfare League & SPCA, & other animal non-profits. Acts include national recording act Icon, Surgical Steel, Metal Elvis, Whiskey Blu, Kaiser, Rip N Tear & Kiss Mania.
Arizona's favorite local rock and heavy metal acts of yesteryear are joining forces to raise money for some of Arizona's Pet-Friendly organizations. The lineup will include: Icon (some members made up local act, The Schoolboys), Surgical Steel, Kaiser, Whiskey Blu, and Rip & Tear. Animal charities that are beneficiaries of the event are: the Arizona Animal Welfare League & SPCA, Arizona Adopt-a-Greyhound, and Payson Humane Society.
The acts, which have been disbanded since the early/mid-90's have agreed to reunite and perform original favorites in two shows: June 7th and 8th, 2008 at Venue of Scottsdale. Tickets are available at
www.ts.com, Rockzone Records and the Venue of Scottsdale box office and range in price from $25 for General Admission and $50 for VIP. Also there's a special for online only purchases that offers a discounted two day “Pass”.
The brainchild of the event is first-time non-profit promoter Heather "Leather" Hammitt, long-time Arizona resident and fan of the acts is excited to see the event come to fruition: "I am so grateful for these talented musicians - they are truly Arizona All-Stars and heroes for dedicating their time and talent and championing the rights of animals! They have been so wonderful helping to get this project off of the ground."
Worldwide touring artist ICON was signed in 1984 by Capitol Records, has four disc releases under their belt, and feature “Rock Icon” Alice Cooper on one of their most applauded disks, Right Between the Eyes. Dan Wexler and Jon Aquilino are pairing up again and will premier their new lineup at the All Stars Event. The band has plans for other dates nationally, so locals will get a “first look” at what ICON is offering!

Granted it only features the guitarists from the classic lineup but still quite promising as Icon was a great melodic metal band from back in the
day...

Cheers,

Neal

:yow: ICON were one of the best melodic metal band ever!! "Night of the crime" is a real masterpiece and a true classic. :worship:

It´s amazing this reunion but in spite I consider ICON=Dan Wexler, I´d like to see in that reunion Stephen Clifford on vocals. For me he´s the real deal to complete ICON reunion.

Anyway, very good news though I don´t know if this is going to create any expectation.

Icon was great. I had their first album, but it fell through the cracks somewhere along the line. This is a great post though, since I even forgot their name! Seriously, over the last few years, every once in awhile I find myself saying, "What the hell was the name of that band from Phoenix i liked!" You've actually helped me solve a puzzle. As soon as I read your post I knew it was them, and when I looked up their Myspace and saw the cover of the first album....I was sure. Very cool.

I first heard Icon on a EP called Axe Attack (I think) back in 1983 and featured Helix "Rock you", Icon "On Your Feet", White Sister "Whips" and Queensryche "The Warning". Back then it was the heaviest shit out there.

Wow, that show is almost like the old days in Phoenix. If they could just manage to get Jason Newsted and Flotsam and Jetsam into the lineup. Surgical Steel was Rob Halford's pet project. It was always those three -- Icon, SS, and F & J for the big shows and sometimes Sacred Reich. I had one helluva crazy night that involved one of those shows in the desert North of Phoenix. Phoenix was a real hotbed for metal back in the 80s and I was young and completely into it.
