Favela of My Dismay
I'm in dire need of a one week vacation. All signs point to October for this monolithic in spirit, miniscule in scope endeavor. A buddy of mine is plotting to go to NYC for some sightseeing in early October and I told him I'd be up to tag along. Days later, Noctis Valkyries came out with their preliminary line up which includes D666, Ares Kingdom, yadda yadda. Now Asian Frank springs the news tha Agalloch will be playing in Portland during Halloween weekend. I theoretically could do all 3 as I have 10 weeks vacation saved, but such a maneuver would not be monetarily sound, as I need those monies to piss away at Pai Gow tables and down stripper's g-strings. What's an hombre to do?!?!

portland. not for agalloch but for the scenery. ive always wanted to visit the northwest.

hanging with lurch might be fun though he may not have much time being a dad and all.
 
Portland is breathtakingly beautiful. It's a city built smack dab in the middle of a forest. Kick ass Zoo + other places of scenic interest, awesome locales to imbibe at (McMnemin's), nice downtown, friendly peeps who would take accountability for falling in to a manhole. They have their fair share of Crustees and liberals, but I deal with spics and spooks on a daily basis so they go unnoticed for the most part.

plus NYC in October rules ... perfect weather and all to do shit.

not sure if you've been here before, but the city is a real eye opener, Portland and the others won't be much a departure from what you are used to back home.

but yeah, the baby might limit my time.

Agalloch, Fauna, and Amber Asylum no less. One of our "dream shows" for sure. Ludicra might be playing the next night, though I'm not sure if that is confirmed or not. Overall a good weekend to go to Portland. Plus in October, the weather is pretty mild and grey.

May have to drive up for the Agalloch show. No way in fuck am I taking a bus again.

Bus 150 + 30 hours + on it next to horrible people
Car 150 (give or take on the price of gas) and about 15 hours driving total
Plane... I'm fucking sick of paying for planes. flights getting changed/delayed/canceled too much, prices are the economical equivalent of rape... etc.

Anyway to contribute to the original topic, I would also recommend NYC. It is an amazing city - hands down my favorite American major metropolis. Much more interesting than Portland.
