Atomic Soul has got some seriously cool tunes. His voice is at times deeper and more powerful than in Symphony X on this. Oh and the music rocks too. This sounds like it could be right out of the 70's.

I have a slight problem with it. Although Russell Allen is singing his heart away, it is Mike Romeo that fails for me. There is something very clinical about his guitar playing (almost text book chord changes) whereas this music could do with some sloppy blues/rock style. You know, throw in a fill, bend a string...it's like Romeo's just following sheet music.

Some of it sounds like The Black Crowes.

I noticed this problem with Romeo on other 'cameo' releases by the way. It's like he's only happy playing Sy X material, and if that's the case he just shouldn't do cameos. His playing for Kotipelto and Johannson is boring as fuck.

I really hope the next Sy X album is like V: The New Mythology Suite.

Agreed completely... kinda reminds me of Bad Company at times... I love the cowbell and bongos in "Voodoo Hand". Russell sounds like he's having a lot of fun.
