Somebody should really post this on the DT, MP or YtseJam forums, and start a flaming war by saying "Well, so Dream Theater really is the one copying Circus Maximus!"

I would love to see the 200 replies defending DT, each with a different "reason behind it."

I agree with you Milton 100%. Now to DT's music, in your opinion who did they copy? my answer is: YES and to some degree STARCASTLE
AeonicSlumber, thanks for pointing this out, there are obviously more things in the picture that are the same as the CM cover, but those are the obvious.

Possibly that's a stock image that was purchased. Some tend to pop up repeatedly. Never liked the unicycle thing anyway. Makes me think of clowns. <shudder>

It is a stock image purchased. In fact, I think the artwork for Circus Maximus' debut was already done before the band requested it. I could be wrong, but pretty sure that's the case. The bottom line is, if you REALLY have to steal an image from another band, STEAL SOMETHING GOOD!

By the way, that just made me remember the whole Symphorce issue years and years ago - does anyone else remember that infamous chorus in one of their songs?

Didn't that issue go much deeper than a single chorus? Seems like I remember it being quite widespread throughout the lyrics.

I don't exactly remember how much was spread around the music - perhaps it wasn't even a chorus, but it was clear that those lyrics had "been seen before."

I also remember some contradictory statements in interviews in regards to the fact after a little while... man, I wish I could find those again just for the sake of amusement. Whoever was right or wrong, it doesn't matter really... I just would love to read them again.

Using a stock picture for your artwork is soooooo different from stealing another band's lyrics. What's worse is they first denied it. And then they said it was supposed to be a "homage."

This is going to make my new song, "Heeding the Fall", a very tough sell.

In all truth and honesty, I'd be shocked and amazed if DT even knew who Circus Maximus was, so I doubt this is plagiarism. And since the original unicycle guy is probably creative commons, it couldn't be anyways. I think it's just a hilarious coincidence. But who knows.
