at a gas station they were selling gum that comes with fucked-up fake teeth called BUBBA GUM and I was trying to stifle laughter because the guy behind the counter seemed to be wearing them.

I finished Stranger in a Strange Land and am almost done with Coetzee's Slow Man and Said's Orientalism (it was a long-ass 13-hr drive).

I wish I were in Maine.

i once spent a tortured week at kiawah island.

everything surrounding the island seemed interesting. the wealthy live in a boring fortress and there was even a sort of moat with a sign stressing not to feed the local alligator, but i don't even think there was on in there!!!

no alligators yet and that's the number-one thing i want to see. saw some horseshoe crabs and a beachball-sized jellyfish today.

There are definitely alligators on Kiawah, I've seen them. But the place is massively yuppie. As for South Carolina as a whole, the only place I think is really great there is Charleston, and my moms hometown but its a small little nowhere of a place so most people probably wouldn't enjoy it. Also, where the did you whitewater rafting in South Carolina, the PeeDee? I wasn't aware there even was rafting down there.

my parents got a week in a condo and aysha and i came down with them to hang out for the week. yesterday we just screwed around in the heated pool and hot tub and today we're going to see an exhibit about the gullahs.
