In your face/ass/life Guitar sound???

I am having quite a bit of trouble getting a guitar sound that is even CLOSE to good. I have an original 5150, sm57 , and a marshall 1960 half stack cab.

What are some quality 5150 settings that will get that full bodied up front attack? ill try and find some stuff to post

Alot of people have lots of luck getting "that" sound with a tubescreamer in front of their amp as a boost.

Less gain and bass and more mids and treble/presence than you think.

Get the cab AWAY from the walls. I usually put my 1960 near the middle of the room and face it towards a corner; more or less.

A single 57 in the sweet spot (inch away from center or so).

Only thing is the 1960a takes a lot of EQ to get to sit right and sound comparable to the more popular V30 sound.

URS A10 EQ and the Sonalksis SV-517 are good for this, IMO.

bad amp/cab combination in my opinion

i'd get something like a mesa or the peavy cab

people talk crap about the peavy cab, but i liked it when i was working with it
the cones are small! but it sounds pretty groovy

you'll still need to layer tho, unless you compare your recordings to old punk rock bands that had one guitar and recorded cheaply

Thanks guys, i don't personally own the 5150/marshall... my friend left it here cause his band is on a hiatus... but i will def. try and work with it
