In your opinion, when did....

Queensryche hit the wall? What I thought was the last straw was Tripe, followed by two live records and another compilation of hits... I thought I was done with them, but I really wanna hear the next record....
I thought they "really" hit the wall with Tripe... Dispite the lack luster records preceeding it, they had a number of tracks that were "okay." I can't say the same about "Tripe."

Promised Land was the last decent disc from them. The last really good disc from them was Operation:Mindcrime. I hold out very little hope for much of anything from the new one. Out of the two tracks they've released so far one is decent and the other is complete crap.

Promised Land was the last album of theirs i fully enjoyed, front to back. Hear in the Now Frontier has some pretty decent songs, and is overall just ok, kinda average. Q2K is utter shit, enough said. Tribe was better, but not by much. All my opinion, of course.

In my view, they really never did.
I thought "Promised Land" was terrific...a more mature take on "Empire". "Hear in the Now", while featuring too many tracks (read: filler) is still a damn fine release! Had the album contained about 3-4 less tracks, it would be momumental. Great sound/style. Not the QR of old, but still great (remember, this is a band that always experiments and doesn't stay to one mold too often).
"Q2K" is also quite good, although more of a straight-up rock record than anything they'd done previously. Some awesome tracks, however.
"Tribe" is their best since "Promised Land", IMO. It's angrier, heavier and 'grittier' than anything they've released since "Mindcrime", as I see it. But, it still employs the modern production they've been using since "Hear In the Now". Overall, a great record.

I know I'm in the minority, but I think they're progression into what they are today has kept them fresh and vital. I only hope "Mindcrime II" is not a regression into past glories for the past's sake.

I liked them early on.....and when Operation Mindcrime came out I was blown away. Everything since then I've disliked. I haven't listened to anything by them in years.

After 'Queen Of The Reich'. I have never been a fan of QR, but I guess that after "Operation Mindcrime" (their finest moment supposedly) they begun to decline.

I had "Empire" for several years, but I grew bored of it and finally trade it.

Empire was a good Rock Record...
It was too polished. Kinda like Leppard's Hysteria or Metallica's Black Album...
Still it's a great one to dust off from time to time...
I went to my buddy's shop during my lunch break & picked up the three Ryche discs that I have NEVER owned...
Promised Land...
Hear...
Q2K...
I haven't heard a lick off any of them yet...
I'll let you know...

their last decent album was Hear in the Now Frontier... after that they totally lost it....

an now Mindcrime II, I fear the worst !!! :(

in my opinion, after Empire the quality of the albums went down ... I don't have these albums, becouse I didn't like them back than...Maybe it's time to listen to them again, like Sixx... About the new album ??? I just can hope for the best... I think all the QR fans agree it's their last shot...if they mess up this time it's time for a funeral !

I can't see a comparison to either, particularly Hysteria. It IS polished, for sure, but Hysteria is complete fluff (save for Gods of War). The Black Album, while polished, really doesn't contain the depth of Empire. Empire is polished in it's sound/production. The songwriting, however, is far greater than the 'stripped down' songs found on Black Album (a great record, for sure).

For me they began to go down with Empire. Although there a few good songs on it, it did not have the power and originality of the previous albums.

So for me Queensryche released one spectacular EP and 3 good albums with Rage for Order being the most progressive, at the time, and Operation Mindcrime being the overall most consistent album.

Ditto.
I regret that their sound doesn't really evolve that much anymore, as Queensrÿche has always been about being original and spreading its musical territories. I hope OM II will be more adventurous than Tribe... and better.
Still I rank everything from QOTR to Empire among my all-time favorite records.

It's been a steep descent after Mindcrime.
Empire is good, but trys to hard to be radio-friendly, which makes it feel very generic.
Promised Land is technically okay, but boring.
Everything after that, Hear in the Now, Q2K, Tribe is pretty much unlistenable to me.

They did make two of the all-time greatest metal disks ever (Warning & Mindcrime), which is incredible accomplishment for one band. The EP is excellent as well. Otherwise, they've been a bit disappointing.

<

I absolutely love everything up to, and including HITNF. HITNF is a little long, but I think tracks 4 through 11 and Spool stack up against most of their stuff. I think the tune that DeGarmo sings is unbelievable.

I can never pick, but I would also put Rage For Order with the other two as one of the best albums ever. Might even be my fav from them...

Promised Land is my favorite post-O:M album. Great mood, great production, and quite the dark feel to it. Tate's favorite, and you can see why. The title track is in my top 10 songs by them, easily..... also, look around for the "electric" version of Someone Else, if you haven't heard it.

I agree with Soundmaster about Empire. It is great throughout. Weakest track, IMO, is Another Rainy Night. One and Only, Della Brown, Anybody Listening, and The Thin Line always blow my mind.

and finally, the other two......btw they hit the wall at Q2k, IMO. Between that and Tribe combined there's like 5 really great songs. Looking forward to O:M2 though!

I think after PL, things went down hill. HitNF is okay, but everything after is pretty much garbage on a comparative basis. I think their peak was definitely O:M though. I know people that were only into extreme metal (which was more or less thrash at the time) that still love Mindcrime. That is a true masterpiece in every sense of the word.

Bryant

3 picks in their career imo :
1-Rage for Order : because they kicked metal idiotic patter of un-evolution
2-Empire : one of the best mainstream metal albums ever
3-Promised Land : their masterpiece imo

and i've never been very fond of O:M which I thought was a "safe album" after the bad reactions of the metal community towards the ground-breaking Rage For Order... :headbang:

otherwise I agree with Wicked Child & Bryant :)
