Interwiev with Doug Scarratt

The album’s title is about King Richard "Lionheart", right?

Yes.

Some songs are about English soldiers, right?

Um, yeah...

I mean their attitude in war.

Oh, yes.

Thrilling!

Crusader - Just a guess here, but I think Doug was being a little hesitant with those questions because he was not sure where they were leading. English soldiers, war etc. You have to be carefull what you say these days, unfortunantely.
He was very coherent on the other questions, I thought.

"You’ve been in Saxon since 1995 when you joined in after Graham Oliver had left the band...

He was sacked actually."

I didnt understand evrything..

Yeah. I was friends with Nigel for quite a long time before I actually played in Saxon. He just rung me up one day, out of the blue and said "Graham (???:hypno: )and I want to know if you’d like to audition for the band".

mistake of the interviewer I suppose

Yes I thought OMG :ill: , I had the feeling he didnt know at all. But maybe he isnt into history, its not his cup of tea. but maybe it is indeed that you must be quite carefull with answering such questions, but I think its the first option, sorry

Yeah - I spotted the Graham Oliver reference, too!
Perhaps, he was sacked but was involved in the recruitment of his replacement. It's happened before, but I do find it difficult to believe.
I would have thought that Biff would be calling the shots, so it may be a mistake by the interviewer.
Valanx - yeah, there really does seem to be a very formal, brisk manner when a discussion of Graham Oliver's departure comes into the conversation. Nigel Glockler - a bloke so obviously nice and polite - even states simply 'He was sacked' end of discussion let's move on.
Wish there were more interviews with the saxon lads to read, however!
