Some of you all put this on your top ten so I decided I better check it out. Whoa! Huge!

It's easy to complain about Sabbath not making records right now, but frankly they don't need to. Honestly, Ozzy would have muddied and flubbed this somehow, especially since Glenn Hughes is such a good singer. Jeeeezus!

Soundmaster, you really gave me the hard sell on Glenn, and I'm a convert for sure. I know his other stuff is probably not this lead-weight heavy, but that's cool. I'm gonna buy everything I can find.

Anyway, this album definately owns, and definately makes an unofficial late entry into my top 10.

Great to hear!

And, no, Glenn's other albums are NOT as heavy! But they still kick major ass. And His records are usually quite different from eachother, each usually offering more variety than the average record does.

My suggestions is as follows:

1) pick up the last Iommi/Hughes collaboration "The 1996 Dep Sessions", which was, as the name suggests, recorded in 1996. Sadly, however, it was shelved when Tony reunited with Sabbath. The album was mastered and finished in 2004. Awesome release, similar to Fused.

2) Soul Mover. Glenn's 2005 release. This record features most of the styles that Glenn concentrates on....heavy rock, funkified rock, etc. Drums are played by Chad Smith of the Chili Peppers, but don't worry. It's very hard rock but with a slight funk twist. Think of Deep Purple circa the Burn/Stormbringer era. The track "Dont Let Me Bleed" is among the best tunes I've heard released in 2005.

3) Songs in the Key of Rock. Glenn's 2003 release. This is his most hardrocking, least funky record. He attemted, in his own words, to "recreate the 70s" with this record. If you love Rainbow, Purple, etc., this one is perfect for you. In fact, one of the tunes "borrows" the riff from Rainbow's "16th Century Greensleaves"!

4) Building the Machine. Glenn's 2001 release. This is actually my FAV Glenn record, but I placed it 4th because it's very heavy on the funk and I'm uncertain as to whether you'll dig that element. Not every song is funky, of course, but at least half is. There's also an awesome acoustic track named "Feels Like Home" which is one of my all-time fav tunes!!

5) Seventh Star. Tony and Glenn's first venture. I'm actually not that crazy about this record, at least compared to anything either Tony and Glenn have done before or since, but there are stil some killer tracks here, including No Stranger To Love which is an awesome tune. Most of the folks here on UM speak highly of this record, but I'm willing to bet you've already heard most of it.

check out some samples of Glenn's solo music at his site:
www.glennhughes.com
Go to "Discography". I suggest checking out "Let It Go" from Soul Mover first....it's a good example of his recent work.

He's also done two records with Joe Lynn Turner which kick major ass.

Also, if you've not already heard them before, Glenn contributes backing vocals to Deep Purple's BURN (and plays bass) and sings lead vocals on two tracks found on Purple's classic "Stormbringer" record.

Right on Wiz, 2005 has been Glenn Hugues year! :headbang:

Also check the HTP collaboration he did with Joe Lynn Turner, they recorded 2 very good albums of classic 70's hard rock! Kick-ass, catchy singing and songwriting in the lines of Deep Purple, Rainbow, etc.

Glenn Hughes is Gold! I do, however, wish that there had been a couple more tracks in the vein of 'What You're Living For'...a bit more of the up-tempo stuff.

Good suggestions have been given so far, but I will add, if you like live albums, Glenn's 'Burning Japan: Live' is quite possibly the best live album ever. The live version of 'Coast to Coast' on this one sends shivers down the spine its so good. You could also go way back to the early 70's and give Trapeze(Hughes, Mel Galley, Dave Holland) a listen.

Glad you pick it up, also take some time and go for "The 96 Dep Sessions" the previous collaboration of Hughes with Iommi, maybe not as cool as "Fused" but still very good.

I'm also happy to see Hughes playing the bass, I imagine the power trio live and must be astounding, I will kill to see them playing 'I Go Insane' on a stage in front of me.

Indeed! Imagine a mixture of post-Dio era Rainbow without the Cheesiness, 70s Deep Purple and the recent Hughes records....awesome stuff. :headbang:

From my experience, you simply can't go wrong when buying an album that features Glenn Hughes on it. I don't recall ever hearing anything I didn't like. Some are only good albums, but many are classics. And let's not forget Hughes/Thrall from 1982. I grew up on that album!

Damn straight, holy frick! This album kills! It further proves that Tony Iommi does NOT need Ozzy to make great music. Shit, it proves that a Tony Iommi album doesn't need the words "Black Sabbath" on the front cover to be great. Way to go, Tony!:worship: :headbang:

Did you say "workaholic"? :loco:

From here, you can access samples of his recent solo records. Most range from 1:00-2:00 minutes, so you can get a good feel for what he's up to.

I suggest giving the following a listen:
from Soil Mover: Dont Let Me Bleed, Change Yourself, Let It Go

from Songs In The Key Of Rock: In My Blood, Written All Over Your Face

from Building the Machine: Cant Stop the Flood, Feels Like Home (although the song ending, heavy cresendo isn't represented in this sample)

:headbang::headbang::headbang:

if you go here (http://ghpg.net/memorabilia.html), you can view some of Glenn's videos, including "soul Mover" and the 1986 Sabbath track "No Stranger To love". There's also 1974 footage of Deep Purple playing at the California Jam, co-headlining with Black Sabbath (there's footage of this show one the "Black Sabbath Story", as well). You'll see that the huge rainbow used by Rainbow was NOT Dio's idea, as Purple used it prior to Blackmore's exit from the band!!

There's also a 52 minute long radio feature from 1974 with Don Imus interviewing Glenn and John Lord concerning the release of the then new album "Stormbringer"!!!
